CALL YOUR SENATOR! For every call they get they count that as representing 1000 voters. I heard if 50 people call on an issue they will make a difference in the Senator's vote on it. we can do more than just hope... ACT!
August 23rd, 2006
(0)
lol, republicans are mentally inferior
August 23rd, 2006
(0)
"Net Neutrality". They can make anything evil sound good. "Patriot Act" "Pro-Choice" "Pro-Life" "Democrat" "Republican". The world is too big with too many ideas for a two party system. I'm against abortion and against the death penalty. Where's my f*cking vote? *ssh*l*es. Guess I'll make my own party. Where I can cry if I want to.

August 23rd, 2006
(0)
Lol silly Republicans and their money
August 23rd, 2006
(0)
It scares me how many people are blinded by the brilliance of the propaganda behind this law. Corporations will use this to a good end, not as a means of censorship- They can't AFFORD to, because then they will LOSE consumers! THINK, people! Is it really that hard?
August 23rd, 2006
(0)
So waite...all those "evil big business money loving republicans" voted AGAINST net neutrality? Isnt that a good thing?
(0)
Seriously im from Sweden. I have to say, whats wrong with you americans, how could your people vote for bush?
August 23rd, 2006
(0)
Net Neutrality = Free Speech. Sure there's a chance that companies will still give you that "Free Speech", but why even give them the chance to ignore it?
August 23rd, 2006
(0)
OH, then I think I had it backwards...actually though, isnt the internet already run by companies like Google and stuff? Competition is always a good thing, privately run...things...are almost ALWAYS better than government run...things.
August 23rd, 2006
(0)
Mid vote cause im confued, I'd rather have the internet in the hands of various corporations than the government.
August 23rd, 2006
(0)
Net Neutrality =/= Free Speech. ISPs already the right to block access to sites as they see fit.
August 23rd, 2006
(0)
... I'm a registered republican and I'm entirely for net neutrality.
August 23rd, 2006
(0)
"Corporations will use this to a good end, not as a means of censorship" lol , naiveity at its best.
(0)
internet is not in the hands of the government dude, its just that its not in the hands of companies, 2 different things... Its like buying land from an indian compared to buying it from microsoft
(0)
and id rather buy land from the indians, they sell it cheap!
August 23rd, 2006
(0)
Mech- to use it as a form of censorship is COMMERCIAL SUICIDE. I would think that you'd be one of the first to take note of that.
August 23rd, 2006
(0)
"ISPs already the right to block access to sites as they see fit." Uh ya, and then they lose all their customers when they start being f*cktards and blocking stuff people want to go to. Without net neutrality, you can't go to another ISP because it will virtually be like all ISP's blocked the same site (except you can still get to it, it would just be incredibly slow depending on the bandwidth being used in that area.)
(0)
and id rather buy land from the indians, they sell it cheap!
August 23rd, 2006
(0)
"Mech- to use it as a form of censorship is COMMERCIAL SUICIDE. I would think that you'd be one of the first to take note of that." Lol Microsoft, nuff said. I don't see them dead yet.
August 23rd, 2006
(0)
Well not sh*t. Republicans would make money off it, Democrates would not. Money rules all.
(0)
I HAVE THE ANSWER!!!!! YOU GOT TO BAKE A PRETTY CAKE TO THE SENATORS. We trade stephany for a neutral internet bill! ZOMG IM SO SMART
August 23rd, 2006
(0)
Ironic. You mentioned in the comment before your last that companies LOSE THEIR BUSINESS when the customer is unsatisfied with their performance, which only reaffirms what I've been saying all along. People can and WILL go to new ISPs when they've had enough sh*t. Companies that adopt Net Neutrality as part of their business practice are the solution, not a law passed by the government that forces them to do so.
August 23rd, 2006
(0)
Net "neutrality": because putting Congress in charge of something *always* eliminates all possibility of corruption. You people are so gullible.
August 23rd, 2006
(0)
if anyone thinks that letters they send to congressmen and senators are ever read by that actual person, are living in a dream world. letters to santa clause are more worth your time.
August 23rd, 2006
(0)
dont blame me,i voted for kodos!
August 23rd, 2006
(0)
"Companies that adopt Net Neutrality as part of their business practice are the solution" Lol, wow, you are retarded. Unless giant companies like AT&T adopt it, what the f*ck is a small company going to do? They have to pay AT&T, Comcast, etc, to use their lines. Get a clue you dumbass, and learn how the internet works first before commenting.

Small businesses can acquire the resources they need should enough consumers become fed up with their current ISPs and seek alternatives. Generate interest in the consumer, and you generate interest in the investor.

republicans are confusing me here... they are usually the ones AGAINST big government... why would they do this? it's all about the $$$ i guess. democrates suck, but I might have to vote left if George Allen doesn't flip flop on this issue.
August 23rd, 2006
(0)
Isn't it great how the right hates regulation but LOVES corporate welfare, tax breaks, and monopolies? So no government involvement in anything, unless we get more money. There's hypocrisy in action.

August 23rd, 2006

People still vote by party rather than by best candidate? hmm, that might explain a lot...
August 23rd, 2006
(0)
Oh, and +1 for the song. That's pretty cool.
August 23rd, 2006
(0)
"Net Neutrality =/= Free Speech. ISPs already the right to block access to sites as they see fit." That's probably why a law is needed to stop that. Plus you contradict this yourself by claiming it's a bad business move.
August 23rd, 2006
(0)
It is amazing to see what liberties the right wing will trounce on to make a buck.
August 23rd, 2006
(0)
ISPs should not be regulated by the government in regards to what they can and cannot show; we should be the ones regulating that with our business.
August 23rd, 2006
(0)
yeah, all the people who are for it are on the left.
August 23rd, 2006
(0)
How is it a contradiction to say that censorship is a bad business move, yet not support Net Neutrality? If Congress passes it, they are bound to twist the new law to serve them rather than the people.
August 23rd, 2006
(0)
It baffles me why anyone in this website would be against net neutrality.
August 23rd, 2006
(0)
I've already explained my position on this.
August 23rd, 2006
(0)
You know what the most bizaar thing is? Usually Democrats are the ones that want the Govt. to interfere with and regulate business. The republicans have historically wanted little govt. involvement. There must be some frighteningly powerful lobbying goin on up at Capital hill... I'll vote Democrat next time.
August 23rd, 2006
(0)
+1 to Squirrel Nut Zippers
August 23rd, 2006
(0)
What I mean is, you say that ISP's are already blocking content, but then say that doing so is a bad business move, which doesn't quite make sense.
August 23rd, 2006
(0)
hate to break this to ya, but Net Neutrality is going to keep the internet in the stoneage :/. try actually knowing what it is before going "ZOMG, teh republicans are against the internets!!111uno"
August 23rd, 2006
(0)
5'd for squirrel nut zippers...also republicans
August 23rd, 2006
(0)
The ISP's claim they've already got higher-speed networks in place, they just won't let them be put to use without somebody paying them. It's like they're holding the progress of the internet hostage.
(0)
FACT: republicans are all gay
August 23rd, 2006

that's as stupid as if youd put something like "Homosexual Marriage" Dems would be for, Repubs against

August 23rd, 2006

it's so f*cking backwards. If these republicans knew how to BE right wing they'd be voting for net neutrality.

Im sick of the "OMG republicans r st00pid" line. That being said, unless Chimpy sucks off 5 of the SCOTUS judges, this act will be shot down in court almost immediately. That being said, It is green.
August 23rd, 2006
(0)
Wow, John McCain's actually against it? He's supposed to be the sanest person of his party.
August 23rd, 2006

i hate republicans "FURRY PORN FROM THE INTERNETS WILL LEADOUR CHILDREN ASTRAY FROM JESUS! WE MUST ELIMINATE THE INTERNETS!"
August 23rd, 2006

I'm saying that they already CAN block content, not necessarily that they DO block content. To block content WOULD be a bad business move since it pisses customers off.

August 23rd, 2006

so the democrats have savetheinternet.com while republicans have stoptheinternetS.com. interesting... heh. that mean that ISPs will increase their price if this bill against the internet is passed as a law. that means we lose money and the freedom of speech. hooray! :cough:
August 23rd, 2006

I want internet freedom as much as anybody...But I am sick of these f*cking ytmnds bringing in politics. Keep it off my f*cking internet and talk about it amongst your f*cking worthless friends or something, we don't give a sh*t.
August 23rd, 2006
(0)
This really shouldn't be an issue divided by parties. The whole Net Neutrality argument is not without flaws. Some regulations suggested by Snowe and others are good while some suggestions made by Senator Markey (he's an idiot by the way) flat out suck. If there were more compromise, perhaps more Republicans would be for it. 1'd for being a Republican bash fest without reviewing the details.
August 23rd, 2006
(0)
I know senator pryor's son, he's funny
August 23rd, 2006
(0)
Most of the people saying "f*ck republicans" don't offer any kind of argument, with the exception of Mech and zakmangus. For me, this isn't an issue of partisanship; it's about progress, which this bill will halt.
August 23rd, 2006

(0)
Yeah freakin' jews!
August 23rd, 2006
(0)
I forgive you for spelling my name wrong. But I don't see how it would stop progress; it's not like the telcos are so strapped for cash they have to charge more to upgrade their old wiring. It seems to me like they're just milking the consumers for all they're worth.
August 23rd, 2006
(0)
I don't know anything about this. But if Ted Stevens is against it, that means I'm for it. I don't want my internets turned into tubes and trucks.
August 23rd, 2006
(0)
I honestly don't get it. 5 for making me feel stupid.
August 23rd, 2006
(0)
I'm cofused on this subject because nobody knows anything about it. I mean, really. What everybody says is that it's either good or bad and I can't figure out who to listen to. The division outweighs the knowledge. "Wah! I'm a democrat so I'm for something and I have no idea what it is!" "Wah! I'm republican so I must follow what my party says!" Where are the facts? Not opinions. This just reeks of needless diversion.
August 23rd, 2006
(0)
The issue here is that corporations are trying to divide web service into 'good' and 'poor' qualities, charging more for good quality. In other words, sites that have a large fan base but low income (YTMND), will become virtually non-functional if not impossible because of inability to afford premium service. Urge your senators to vote for net neutrality.
August 23rd, 2006
(0)
1'd for political humor. What an oxymoron. It's just not funny.
August 23rd, 2006
(0)
No...?
August 23rd, 2006

Republicans are against because the GOP supports the big businesses that line their pockets. Its another issue of Republicans voting for the vast minority of rich folks while voting against the real democratic wishes of the people.
August 23rd, 2006
(0)
That's very odd. I wonder why that trend is holding so much.
August 23rd, 2006

Yes, this law keeps it from being commonplace.

to naysayers: where the f*ck is teddy roosevelt? this bill may not kill the internets and wal-mart hasn't put me on the street (yet but they're trying). regardless... we don't need to be looking up YTMND on ATNTNET. I'm all for little goverment but anti-trust laws saved this country.

I'm in the UK; I already have certain sites (4chan's /b/ is the only well-known one) blocked to me by NTL. I'd rather have the government make a law stating that neither they nor the companies can meddle directly with people's internet access.

I'm still not entirely sure (yes, even after that site) whether the actual bill is for the big companies destroying the system & tiering it up & regulating themselves, or if it's just inadequate or if it's something we DO want in order to save the internet.

"Imagine if the Government was made of up all independants...and they actually had to THINK and DECIDE about how they were voting." Funny coming from someone who probably can't explain what Net Neutrality is or why he voted a 5 on it

This is an enormous problem in our political system -- it's pervasive. Media has convinced both politicians and denizens that the American political system is red & blue, democrat & republican, liberal & conservative. Politicians and voters are becoming more concerned with which political image they emit rather than what they really care about. It's a sad state of affairs, folks.

Do half of you even know what this bill is about? It's trying to bar telecom companies from selling different Broadband speeds at different prices.. It doesn't make sense for the government to meddle in the affairs of a corporation. If I want sh*tty internet at 10 bucks less a month I should damn well be able to get it!

My senator, DeMint, is against. Fail. I'm sorry guys, we didn't vote for him. He said that gays shouldn't be allowed to vote and called his opponent a "little lady", but still won. What a f*g.

Read the article, but it makes little difference. Just because in theory one can control the market via demand, doesn't mean that they will be able to control it in real life. Gas prices are a good example of this.

In theory, people should be able to control gas prices by favouring those companies with lower prices and compancies that price gouge would be "committing economic suicide". However, in reality they collaborated and now control us to make the most money. Besides this issue, I would agree that people shouldn't be able to pay to get higher priority in net power than others. The key difference here between Pro and Con appears to be one side saying what the internet IS like and the other side saying what...

Actually, Mewtwox, since both Republican- and Democratic-controlled Congresses have investigated allegations of gasoline price fixing and gouging and found no evidence of widespread malfeasance, your claims with regard to that market are just a bunch of bullsh*t. Gas prices have nothing to do with price fixing and everything to do with Western nations that refuse to allow drilling and refining because of environmental concerns, and the rapid development taking place in India and China.

I think this country needs a new policy called "car neutrality" where no one is allowed to pay extra to purchase anything better than a Pontiac Grand Am.
August 23rd, 2006

The reason why Democrats support net neutrality is because they believe in equal opportunity. Conservatism is based on that they don't believe everyone should have equal opportunity, because they believe in structure of society and social order.

If you honestly think that prices aren't being controlled for profit, you don't spend much time looking at the pumps. Funny how predictable the price fluctuations are, isn't it? Not to mention what happens whenever there's oil related news... prices drop way before actual reprocussions are even felt. The government investigation was the equivalent of a handwaive. Like they actually cared...
August 23rd, 2006

If the oil companies are exerting significant monopolistic control over the price of gasoline for profit, you'd think they could at least manage to make gas cost more per gallon than bottled water.

Communism FTL. Why should the government be able to decide what a company does? If an ISP goes non-neutral, people will get pissed off and they'll switch to a neutral provider. Competition between companies will keep the net neutral anyway. Thats the greatness of capitalism.
