This proves nothing about god. It proves that something created the universe, not that there is a god watching over us. It is a fully illogically conclusion to come upon that "God" did that, especially not the christian god. In addition, if everything needs a cause, what caused god? Your logic is highly flawed, and I would love to discuss this further.
This is not a paradox. Either of the statements could be true, leading the other to be false. This completes a logical circle, however, you cannot know which is true and which is false.
Whether or not Jim Davis intends Garfield to be dead is irrelevant: his only existance is in the comic and if his dream is how he's living, then it still remains his singular reality in this universe. So ha. Either way he's just a character. Plot lines aren't even usually overlapping: ever see Garfield's 9 lives?
I dont think there would have been any problem with the whole thing if they didn't trademark it or not give credit where due. It's the same as with ebaumsworld - if he used content, cited sources, and didn't profit off of it, there'd be no problem.
