?Can't break Cosby's Stride | (4.22) | T-V | 2006-05-10 |
The Cosby sound-edit sites are great because they combine two impressions of the man that sound nothing like him or each other. And then they put it to music. It would pain me to pick just one, but if I had to, this would be it. |
ChargeMan | 2006-05-10 | |
?Safety Not Guaranteed | (4.61) | axlbonbach | 2006-05-10 |
This one created a monster -- just try watching the montage scene from SCARFACE without thinking about that stern-looking chap in the mullet. Now try to look at that stern-looking chap in the mullet without imagining him traveling through time. |
ChargeMan | 2006-05-10 | |
?Inspector John Kimball | (4.19) | Holdios88 | 2006-05-10 |
Sure, the picture is hilarious. But then there's the spectacular audio -- which, in typical Schwarzenegger fashion, plays along with the "Inspector Gadget" theme before interrupting it at will. Fantastic. |
ChargeMan | 2006-05-10 | |
?Auf Wiedersehen to Secret Nazi Forest! (refresh) | (4.19) | monsterparty | 2006-05-10 |
Though it uses "Secret Nazi Forest" as a jumping-off point, "Auf Wiedersehen" utilizes INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE in such a creative yet obvious manner that you're a little jealous that you didn't think of it first. The final gag is priceless. |
ChargeMan | 2006-05-10 | |
?"Death" of Phoenix | (3.99) | Inkz | 2006-05-10 |
Another "man, why didn't I think of that" moment. It can be seen as a bizarre sexual act, or merely a commentary on how useless it is to mourn soon-to-be-resurrected comic book characters, but no matter how you want to interpret the image here, this is animation and music working together for the perfect laugh. |
ChargeMan | 2006-08-14 | |
?You're the man now dog! | (4.57) | max | 2006-05-10 |
To understand YTMND as a whole, you'd have to understand the one that started it all, and its perfect lyrical loop. |
ChargeMan | 2006-05-10 | |
?Chunk is Indestructible | (4.51) | syncan | 2006-05-10 |
This is, quite easily, the finest pop-culture mashup that YTMND has to offer. |
ChargeMan | 2006-05-10 | |
?lol internet | (4.46) | Dunkinbean | 2006-05-10 |
This hypnotic, nonsensical site may sum up the very mystique of YTMND. |
ChargeMan | 2006-05-10 | |
?lol myspace | (4.40) | b2lskirnir | 2006-05-10 |
This site takes two eternally familiar YTMND concepts -- "lol, internet" and emos on MySpace -- and combines them with absolutely flawless sound editing to create something hilarious and undeniably true. |
ChargeMan | 2006-05-10 | |
?Cosby Duckhunt | (4.16) | Kassius | 2006-05-22 |
One cannot heap praises on the Cosby sound-edit fad without mentioning the user Kassius. Here's one of his best. It's an idea that was probably born out of editing the dog's bark from DUCK HUNT, but the rest of it's just as hilarious, too. |
ChargeMan | 2006-05-22 | |
?Lex Luthor > Kaz Hirai | (4.53) | stratos-the-bratos | 2006-05-24 |
How else can a media-savvy gamer/comic book fan express his disgust at the PlayStation3's outrageous price? The strange thing is that the humor here comes in knowing the punchline. |
ChargeMan | 2006-05-24 | |
?Christopher Walken Lets People Down | (4.00) | UberNeuman | 2006-05-31 |
UberNeuman turns the awful "break my stride" fad on its ear by combining an unexpected moment from BATMAN RETURNS with an unexpected moment from YTMND where Michelle Pfeiffer's "stride" is introduced out of nowhere and, of course, is eventually broken. Just the right amount of sound editing makes this a downright perfect YTMND. |
ChargeMan | 2006-06-02 | |
?T2000 Pwnz | (4.30) | TjenTang | 2006-06-06 |
The finest NEDM site, perfectly timed with that wonderful little shock that's really quite necessary for this fad. It also serves as a wonderful combination of movie logic and just total nonsense: consider that the T-1000 can actually feasibly become the NEDM cat. Why would he? Why should you care? And be sure to get yourself a Chapstick Knife. |
ChargeMan | 2006-06-07 | |
?The Bee > Akeelah | (4.02) | SirLemming | 2006-06-06 |
SirLemming proves that the Lex Luthor fad is one that requires perfect comedic timing, dropping in a mere hint before smacking us with its punchline. And besides, if there's any pedantic, feel-good blather of a movie that deserved a lambasting from our man Luthor, it's this one. |
ChargeMan | 2006-06-06 | |
?Cosby Bebop | (4.64) | SirLemming | 2006-06-07 |
Consider this site, along with "Dr. Dre Ft. Cosby," to be the final word on the Cosby fad. |
ChargeMan | 2006-06-07 | |
?dieee nowww | (4.04) | bonerson | 2006-06-07 |
The ultimate joke of this piece is not necessarily an original one, but once it is revealed the masterful editing forces us to surrender to its power. |
ChargeMan | 2006-06-07 | |
?Michael Moore is too easy to make fun of | (4.34) | MasterSitsu | 2006-06-11 |
The site URL alone is a great commentary on lazy political parody. |
ChargeMan | 2006-06-11 | |
?Dubya Song | (4.57) | furrykef | 2006-06-12 |
A smart, hypnotic bit of audio mixing which parodies -- and exceeds -- the rather overrated "Picard Song." The punchline is right in front of you, but you can't help but chuckle every time Cap'n Dubya says "Internets." |
ChargeMan | 2006-06-12 | |
?McFly is Unfireable *better quality* | (4.17) | Snesman64 | 2006-06-13 |
With all of the elements so perfectly fitting into the parody, you'd think that the 2015 scene from BACK TO THE FUTURE PART II was created just to accommodate this YTMND -- easily the best of the "Chunk is Indestructible" mock-ups. Perhaps the future (or maybe the future of the past) thought of the whole idea first... |
ChargeMan | 2006-06-13 | |
?David Lynch Thinks About Thinking! | (4.10) | ROY4L | 2006-06-13 |
A brilliant little literalization of introspective thought. This sums up the work, technique and philosophy of David Lynch pretty well. |
ChargeMan | 2006-06-13 | |
?The many lols of YTMND | (4.24) | spazzmckiwi | 2006-06-15 |
YTMND hypnosis to the nth degree. This never-ending cycle of Ronald McDonald makes you contemplate the general absurdity of the term "lol" and its inexplicable (yet hilarious) integration into spoken language. |
ChargeMan | 2006-06-15 | |
?(nsfw) nigga stole my bubble bobble | (3.90) | sodae | 2006-06-15 |
The spectacular, strangely appropriate sound editing is entertaining enough on its own, but "nigga stole my bubble bobble" is also a smart, subtle criticism of the MIKE TYSON'S PUNCH-OUT!!/"nigga stole my bike" craze, and how it essentially forces a racist perspective where it doesn't belong. Here, the phrase and concept are shoehorned into an even more innocent, context-free NES world where it feels even more out of place. |
ChargeMan | 2006-06-15 | |
?FAMILY GUY 311 EMISSION IMPOSSIBLE | (3.51) | Waziot | 2006-06-16 |
Waziot may be the Marcel Duchamp of YTMND for his recreation of the ever-popular "what is art" question. This site, the first of many sites which intend to post an entire episode of FAMILY GUY, calls to attention the fact that thousands of users expect praise for posting scenes from popular television series and movies... and that thousands of other users are more than willing to offer such praise. The fact that file space is so limited makes each chopped-up scene of the episode practically unwatchable, which only increases the irony -- at this rate, he'll be done in forty sites or so. |
ChargeMan | 2006-06-17 | |
?Scientology is Incomprehensible | (4.30) | syncan | 2006-06-17 |
This site works on so many levels; it's like a self-conscious combination of the best and the worst of YTMND. Syncan slaps some different images onto his own original work, "Chunk is Indestructible" -- something which has already happened countless times by countless hands -- but the Photoshopping and animation are so well-done (check out Hubbard's mouth, man!) that it cannot be considered a lazy cop-out. Combine that with a razz on Scientology, which features random images from a newly-popular fad and exemplifies the general confusion of what it is, exactly, that those folks believe. Ask yourself a question: how can something be a self-deprecating parody, a parody of others' pathetic attempts at parody, AND a spectacular parody in itself? Syncan, you just blew my mind. |
ChargeMan | 2006-06-17 | |
?Lex Luthor > Tight Graphics | (4.35) | silenoz | 2006-07-12 |
Yet another Lex Luthor site? Let's just say I'm thoroughly mystified by how well this fad works when you absolutely know the punchline -- and besides, an extra layer of absurdity has been laid across the fad with Luthor's newfound ability to destroy everything with the power of "WRONG!" Out of all the sites that do that, this one manages the most giggles out of me. Your tight graphics have nothing on Luthor! |
ChargeMan | 2006-07-12 | |
?I LVOE U BABY | (3.99) | ac6517 | 2006-07-25 |
A punchline on top of a punchline, disguised as a flaw in creation -- a clever take on the infinitely-repeating YTMND sound loop. |
ChargeMan | 2006-07-25 | |
?We’re artists now. | (4.60) | dedcat | 2006-08-03 |
It's always been the nature of artists, especially those of new art forms and movements, to flout critical praise, and YTMND is no exception. This silly little bit of self-deprecation exemplifies that brilliantly, and perhaps once and for all solidifies YTMND as an art form as legitimate as pop art or Dadaism. |
ChargeMan | 2006-08-03 | |
?A Series of Tubes: The Movie | (4.58) | krebstar | 2006-08-08 |
Although the film hasn't been released yet, there's no doubt that the trailer for the film PULSE leads us to fantasize a rather ridiculous premise (to wit: "the demons are coming through my internets"). Although Ted Stevens has reasonably argued that his statements about the web were not completely psychotic, consider "A Series of Tubes: The Movie" to be a reflection on a film and a speech, seemingly unconnected, but both publically perceived through a limited scope of view (i.e., trailers and soundbites). |
ChargeMan | 2006-08-08 | |
?Sean Connery fails at Duck Hunt | (4.56) | juiceman | 2006-08-08 |
The basic joke is one which could, has been and probably will be repeated in future YTMNDs (as reflected by the author's cited influence, "mac fails at duck hunt") but for some reason it clicks perfectly when applied to this clip from THE ROCK. Juiceman is particularly smart to include the infamous "FLY AWAY" screen, a purely video game moment that isn't immediately evident for creators of such parodies. Take particular note of the final moment -- what DUCK HUNT player hasn't tried to shoot the dog at one point? Like all of us, even the great Sean Connery finds him an elusive target. |
ChargeMan | 2006-08-08 | |
?Frodo's Script | (4.33) | MasterSitsu | 2006-08-30 |
The point, to wit: No one wants to read your crappy fanscript. ROBOCOP VS. THE SPACE NINJAS and its hilarious parody of epic cinema would be great enough on its own, but the whole shebang is brilliantly offered to us via the Hobbits, who themselves are victims of endless, horrendously written fan fiction. |
ChargeMan | 2006-08-30 | |
?Lioness mauls religious nut | (3.93) | hacksawbebo | 2006-08-30 |
Performed in an "old school" YTMND sort of way (picture, sound, text, of course), this is sarcasm at its finest. |
ChargeMan | 2006-08-30 | |
?The Elements | (4.57) | Carltheshivan | 2006-09-01 |
Brilliance in URL titles, the one fundamental that no one seems to remember: with all of the vowels taken out, it can mean "periodic table" or, more pertaining to YTMND, "predictable." Considering that this fad bases its appeal around the fact that we shouldn't see it coming, why have we come to consider it predictable? It's a matter of expecting the unexpected from sites with deceptively plain, nondescript titles; something that this site simultaneously embodies and criticizes. |

?(nsfw) An Accurate Portrayal of Ebaum | (1.68) | Waziot | 2006-09-01 |
Predictably, the "EMISSION IMPOSSIBLE" series, Waziot's brilliant criticism-through-example of lazy, pop culture-posting YTMNDs, is in the process of being removed from the site. (Why this and not others?) I'll keep it on my "favorites" list, but here's one of his earlier efforts for you to chew on: "An Accurate Portrayal of Ebaum," which exposes the childishness of certain parodies while also commenting on the essential hypocrisy that lazy YTMNDers display when criticizing the just-as-lazy-but-insanely-rich Eric Bauman. |

?The Price is Kaz | (4.62) | kingstefan | 2006-09-24 |
Kingstefan makes a logical step and puts the price-obsessed Kaz Hirai on "The Price is Right." The fact that he can seamlessly place Kaz in Bob Barker's role should exemplify Sony's CEO as a natural-born huckster; particularly telling is how those few stock quotes from the PS3 Press Conference are edited and mixed up in a variety of ways, but still manage to sound completely natural. And, of course, it's always the first joke that draws you in. Riiiiidge Racerrrrr! |

?The elephant has something to say | (3.92) | TheOminousThey | 2006-10-04 |
The Mark Foley controversy rages on and this YTMND just gets better by the minute. The whole thing will reach the boiling point (the October Surprise Redux, I assume) and "The elephant has something to say" will be heralded across the land as great satire. |

?A Most Difficult Choice | (4.64) | MasterSitsu | 2006-11-09 |
