Thank you for the great feedback. It always seemed like I got 500% more people looking at anything I did rather than youtube, even though youtube is 50000% more people. But even one person genuinely enjoying something is enough for me.
Seriusly, Youtube got almost nothing and Soundcloud got me like 500 views on a song once and everything else was less than 50 that was exciting but I have gotten a 1000s of hits multiple times here which is a good feeling.
That is because it is actually this gif cropped and lightened way up http://imgur.com/tAoRJtv it was not tv static, which is basically random, it was procedurally generated computer image that just happened to look like that. http://pelulamu.net/ibniz/
Which is all kind of a who cares artistic decision but it is also part of the joke because Snowcrash in the book was a virus that looked like static but was actually binary data displayed as a bitmap, a virus that would infect the optic nerves of susceptible viewers (people who knew how to count in binary, programers). So that the image was made by a computer with random input is part of the joke I don't expect anyone to get.
I really can't figure out what you mean by lines of my overlay. The whole static thing in the background (if that's what you meant) is a tie-in to Snowcrash. It used to be more obvious but you can see a clear difference if you see either gif on their own. If you mean you can see the static gif tile in the background then your eyes are keener than mine.
In retrospect my comment is a lot more bitchy than I'd like to be as a person. Big surprise, I did not think long before posting it. Even worse is the missing comma!
This was made with http://pelulamu.net/ibniz/. It takes assembly code like input and spits out horrible noise and sometimes interesting video. This static is just like it came out of the program. The colors and all. It is not actually static as such but a noisy background that is moving to the right very fast. In the full video it is from the static stops and rotates and then goes in the other direction in a way that looks quite bizarre.
Really though it was just magic wand select to make parts of the foreground image transparent. The background had nothing to do with filters. The background was generated by programing and screen capture.
