Using the word "Jesus" in a song title isn't stealing, just because another band has done it.
The two songs are completely different in every respect, "american jesus" being an affront to the arrogance of the US president; "jesus of suburbia" is about being a bored, frustrated teenager in dead, suburban america; and trying to escape mundane life.
So really, your analogy is completely irrelevant.
Hardly any contemporary music is actually original. That's why bands often name their Influences. Dick.
Astralsmirk is obviously right, because as every school-boy knows, any song with the word "Jesus" in the title is clearly a rip-off of "American Jesus", despite the two songs sounding NOTHING alike. Yes?
