I felt that getting a release by the deadline was more important than perfect slide timing. My audio program uses minutes and seconds, but Fireworks is more confusing - it works with hundredths of a second.

I harped on PMGs for a while, you may recall. I tried many png editors with very limited results for creating significant animations of any complexity. As for the file size they generate, we might as well support html video with alpha channels or something similar.

I always bitch about "ignore/block users comments" not functioning properly.

I think the only moderation we need is detecting and eliminating alt accounts specifically used to skew voting results unfairly (1 vote per person). Otherwise, for any other duties, any moderator is subject to personal bias and is unlikely to be truly neutral/fair despite their ytmnd birthdate or presumed professionalism. Unless maybe they were elected (sans alt votes).

I think there should be a limit to how many 1 votes a user can post within a timeframe - like the time limit for creating multiple sites. Trolling should be made a little harder to do en masse.

I never understood the criteria that made one a featured user, exactly, and why they were eliminated.

What do you use Fireworks for? I hear its better for web development (multi-page, stylesheets, etc.) even though it is discontinued and no longer developed by Adobe.

I see animated png's as what animated gifs should really be in the year 2014 -> with alpha channels and 24 bit color instead of 8 bit.

I have actually done a good amount of work with video. The only way you can have alpha channels in them is if you used quicktime AND you have either the 'Animation' or the 'PNG' codec. Those output files also tend to be large.

Besides, I see animated PNG's as consistent with the original vision of YTMND whereas video is not.

Max already has ways of finding alt voters, as he has said to me, but he seems quite slow to punish. I was proposing it be done by the individual users instead. Besides, there are the kinds of trolls who do not technically violate YTMND standards, but they are just plain annoying any way. Or they do violate the standards, but they do so in ways which are hard to prove.

For example, there are those which go around, following others obsessively, constantly pumping insult comments at them. No one has to put up with that on facebook - there is a block button. I think that such a feature is a reasonable request for here.

Fireworks (even by Adobe's admissions) was meant for website building back in 1998. So the image slicing and image text techniques gradually grew less and less relevant since then, when you factor in more modern CSS 2 and CSS 3, along with HTML5.

Fireworks was also not the best animation - Adobe suggests Flash. Adobe also suggests Dreamweaver for most website editing. That is unless you are like me and rely on online site/content editors like with Wordpress and Drupal.

While blocking comments is useful and desirable, I am more interested in preventing unfair voting practices. If one person has 10 or 20 alts then they can make sure your site is off the front Page more quickly and does not receive a fair rating based on the idea of one vote per person.

If an alt downvote campaign hits your site for whatever reason then fewer people will end up seeing it. I think this is much worse in all fairness than receiving a lot of negative comments.

I'm just bummed that Photoshop can't export animated PNGs.

I am being asked by my clients to produce more video work. I have mostly been using low-end consumer stuff like iMovie which actually works pretty well for simple things. But for animated logos and so forth
I use my 3d app or Photoshop CS 6 which has some decent video editing features similar to Premire. I know how to use after effects and premier but I don't own them and I refuse to subscribe to creative cloud. I'm considering final cut pro or avid but I'd love to find a video editor that exports to PNG animations too. so far I haven't found a solution.

I'm a print guy and I've been avoiding web for years but I've read some pretty good write ups on smashing.com about using fireworks for web development and user interface design despite its age. I want to avoid the template based apps like Wordpress Dupral. I'd use Muse or dream weaver maybe except for the Adobe subscription bullshit.

To be clear, I don't even think Fireworks is meant to properly export a usable APNG (at least not without plugins for Fireworks). The fireworks file you do work with IS a PNG file, but I do not know if it would act like a proper animated PNG in the browser without a plugin for Fireworks. I could be wrong, though.

What I would do is if I were inclined would be to use a dedicated piece of software that could handle individual still frames, including png files with alpha transparency, treat them like an image sequence, turn it into animation with playback preview, then export a valid APNG.

I might do this at some point, even if Max does not add on canvas features for animated png files.

I find it interesting that someone in the year 2014 can make all their money from print without any dabbling in to web. Kudos to you.

Also, I think wordpress can actually be pretty flexible with design if you know how to edit wordpress templates.

Yes, print has been in decline for a while. Making a living as a freelancer is hard enough.

Packaging is a big part of my work now - everyone who sells physical items still needs cartons and labels. One advantage I have is that all the new people in the design field know zilch about cmyk + spot or complex finishings. So there is less competition for me.

I got my cs6 on ebay and I plan to use it forever unless Adobe reverses their licensing. The print apps are feature complete and mature and I'll never miss anything new. I'll virtualize CS6 if future OS upgrades break it.

If I switched to mobile/web, as those technologies advance, I'm afraid I might be left out if I were to rely on feature frozen cs6 web apps.

When it comes to web, I hate code, I'm lazy and don't want to learn it. But I also know most wysiwyg editors are flawed in some regards that would require some knowhow to fix or optimize. With print, I never have to edit postscript, so I'm spoiled compared to people who deal with html.

I've been waiting for web authoring to mature and solidify so that what I choose to learn won't change for a long time. But I don't see that happening yet.

I also hate how when you design a web page, clients always expect unlimited revisions and sometimes unexpected features like database integration or e-commerce, or layout responsiveness.

I'll have to jump in some day - I get a lot of requests.

I also empathize regarding the issue of constant changes for websites of clients. Thankfully, I just have to do with strict coding and programming issues, I personally do not deal directly with clients right now.

The good side of making changes for the web is that the only cost for you as the creative is time. No need to create printed proofs or samples.

1. i see a lot of presentations do this sort of thing, with an introducer voice and also a main presenter voice.
2. relying on more TTS was easier to make the audio with the limited time i was able to work with. with human dialogue, you have to do multiple takes for decent quality, then still edit and filter afterwards.

It's not a stupid question. Because "greed" is a convenient slander for whenever someone wants to get on some moral high horse.

The problem is that "greed" means different things to different people. Along with it's stepbrother word "selfish".

For example, some people say if you want to pay less taxes, that you are greedy. No rational explanation is provided for what the proper threshold for non greed on that is.

Others claim that government employees are "greedy", because they are typically much harder to fire than private sector employees. Government employees also tend to get better benefits and are more likely to be unionized than a private sector employee.

Others still define greed as simply making more money than they do.

One of the ways my dad uses "selfish" is regards to those who smoke weed. What he fails to consider is that people who drink or enjoy any other form of pleasure can be accused of selfishness as well.

So, I almost never see a consistent definition of "greed" or "selfishness". Therefore, I just roll my eyes whenever someone uses these words.

Like I said, you get the 1st shot because I'm so confident he'll mop the floor with you, there'll be no need for a Round 2. Because he knows so much about you, I'll provide some background facts to help even the playing field:

- he's about 3 yrs old but still looks & acts like a puppy
- he was about 25lbs when we got him, had nasty skin patches, and all kinds of worms and parasites; now he's about 40lbs and still has dandruff

- he's deathly afraid of water in all forms from puddles to rain to baths to the beach and he thinks we control the weather so he gets mad at me when it rains
- he's scared of folding laundry, the noise our sound system makes when I plug something in (laptop, Ipod, etc) to the mini jack cable, and thinks the salad spinner and vacuum cleaner are tools of Satan
- unlike many dogs that pick up on their owners' anxieties, he's not racist. we're the only honkies on our block and he's totally friendly with everyone, from the black guys who sit in their cars and smoke blunts all night to the Nepalese and Sudanese kids who are terrified of him because they likely had some horrifying experience with dogs back in their countries--which leads us to assume that he was raised in a black household down in SC

You realize that merely assigning 1 star without any sort of argument or critique helps you in no way at all? (unless your goal is to inspire resentment from your targets)

I think instead of a Featured Users section I'd prefer a section to see sites made by friends. I mean, a featured users section is so you can hopefully see new good sites by people who usually make good sites, but if it's good it'll already be in Up and Coming/Top Rated. That makes it pretty unnecessary, IMO.

A section for sites made by friends lets you keep up with your favorite ymndters
