old prof. of mine, Thomas Cobb (writer of that recent Bridges' film, CrazyHeart) used to own a book store in Arizona years ago, and he booked Hunter for a book signing. it was going to be a huge event - hundreds of copies of Thompson's latest were ordered, the phone's kept ringing with inquiries, and a detail cop and line rope were rented to control the expected crowds. the night before, Hunter's publicist called to cancel the event. seems he had given a signing in his home town that night and, during the course of things, had pulled out a pistol and shot up the store he was in.
