Jesse Jackson has an illegitimate child yet runs around acting like he's the moral authority of the world, nice.

I'd like to say it genuinely was the black community doing all of the chasing, but it was pretty much limited to those four individuals and the white media that were doing all the freaking out.
April 14th, 2007
(6)
generally agree, putting this all on Sharpton is misleading, NBC caved. Glenn Beck gets away with and has gotten away with more, such as asking a Muslim senator if they're a terrorist, calling Katrina survivors scumbags. but he doesnt have the same bosses.

anyways, this whole time i never got why 'nappy headed ho's' was really that offensive. at best it may be bad tact, but is it less bad tact than incredibly white people acting as black stereotypes at sh*tty award shows when they get paired with Snoop Dogg to award Best Onscreen Kiss?

Racists/people who act like Imus are really stupid. It's annoying when people do that sh*t because it ends up as a huge news story because some moron said something insensitive and EVERYBODY is extremely offended.

Making long comments makes it look like that you are professionally proving a point and that we are trying to make another whetstone who killed the most ppl ytmnd scene, or the simple fact that this is so in deep in real life that it just has to have such vigorous and such entertaining comments that people can reply to.

I just think that ignoring Imus' comment would've shown some maturity on the part of the "target".
April 14th, 2007
(0)
Its not the kind of comment he said, its really the person. I think he knew what he was doing. Its just the question is why did he do it? Saying stuff doesnt necessiarly mean something, its how you use it. And for Imus, its really strange why he decided on a radio program, to say that stuff. I think he knew the consequences, its just.. why did he do it?

Dude I agree. I just hate how the black community acts you know.....It's hypocritical. Basically the whole "we can make fun of whites, asians, etc. but you can't make fun of us." It's a load of sh*t. And worse the media always caves in even though there is worse out there that people got away with (*cough*Rosie cow *cough*) like Sitsu said.

Why aren't they chasing Snoop Dogg, or any of the other rappers who have said far worse? Hypocrites, all of them. Attacking whites for isolated racist statements while ignoring the festering self-hatred of their own culture.

Oh and innocentby, black leaders are generally against hip-hop with negative messages. Next time make sure you know wtf you're talking about kthxbai...
April 15th, 2007
(0)
yeah, black leaders say "that's wrong" and then don't do anything about it, meanwhile they're actively trying to get this moron imus fired
April 15th, 2007
(0)
LOL, what are they going to do? I doubt they'll get the record industry to tell their artists to stop making the kind of music that people are eating up and making them millions every year. Besides that I'm still not seeing much of a connection between a racist comment and rap music anyway...
April 15th, 2007
(0)
calling women "hoes," degrading women, etc
April 15th, 2007
(0)
though I agree that in rap music it's so pervasive I doubt that kind of pressure would really make the artists stop
April 15th, 2007
(0)
first off, Sharpton DOES actively attack rappers. but he's rightfully ignored. theres a difference between whats said publicly and whats put on a record that you have to actually seek out. Same as the standard for TV violence is different from a horror film. I could give two sh*ts personally if every channel on TV had a 4 hour block of porno and violence, but that’s not the way things are, so your comparison is apples/oranges to me. As for Imus, he was clearly joking with no intent to racially offend, apparently noone told him the 'rules' that you cant 'act black' to that level on the air (unless like Howard Stern you've got a black sidekick laughing at it to prove to everyone that its okay?). I also think if the Richards incident wasn’t so fresh people wouldn’t have pushed back at him at the level they did, that got treated like a mini Racial 9/11 and now anything reminding of it gets treated with the same paranoid empty headed shock.
April 15th, 2007
(0)
Are you kidding me? This is CBS, that little15 million they get from Imus is chump change to them. What would have been worse for CBS is if they were looked at as harboring a racist starting an even bigger sh*t storm for themselves. They did what a smart business do and got rid of the problem. Don't give me this crap about hip-hop; do you really think fictitious rap songs about hoes and thugs carry the same weight as a public statement that people found racist and insensitive? Come on..
April 15th, 2007
(0)
Just because they're both public doesn't mean they carry the same weight, rap lyrics =/= racist comment. Why are you not getting this? If you were comparing a radio personality of another race that says racist things and gets away with it THEN you'd be on to something. As far as I'm concern this rap junk is a reach at best. These are 2 different levels of seriousness that should be handled as such...
April 15th, 2007
(0)
Replace "black leaders" with "politicians" and I think you're getting the real picture.
April 15th, 2007
(0)
Antwan has a good point. Rap lyrics and what is publicly said on radio are apples and oranges. I dont care how many kids do listen to rap, lots of kids also watch horror movies and listen to metal. Someone complaining about (supposedly) public racists statements is no more responsible for attacking rap than someone against wife beating is responsible for attacking James Bond films. a gun hating mommy is not responsible for making sure "Smokin Aces". Art =/= reality, and even when it is meant to reflect reality - context is everything, and it goes both ways. Calling Tarantino a racist for saying "n*gg*r" in his own film is as ridiculous to me as taking "To Kill a Mockingbird" off bookshelves. For all its worth I think the Imus thing went way overboard, but I think some of the 'hypocrisy' claims ignore what makes these things so very different.
April 15th, 2007
(0)
when people dont know something is a joke, thats a big problem though. you can even joke and mean it and get away with it. Again like I said, even something like if he had a black sidekick like Howard Stern has probably would have changed everything. Theres so many factors that cause an uproar like this, it really isnt as simple a formula as Race X + Comment Y = Fired.

N*gg*rs are unable to cope with civilization. They are more at home in the jungle, eating bugs and what have you. N*gg*rs are genetically more closely related to monkeys and apes than the rest of the races. Just look at all the crime and problems they cause. Time to do something about them.

WHo the f*ck listens to Imus anyway? IF they were going to fire him they should have cause he was an annoying old man in a stupid hat, but now he's getting more attention than ever because Al sharpton (who represents EVERY single black person in the world) found what he said offensive and demands that Imus apoligizes to all black people.
April 15th, 2007
(0)
i like imus's show
April 15th, 2007
(0)
What happens the next time Dave chappelle calls a white guy a "crazy cracker ass"? When that happens, I hope al sharpton will stand up for our race and defend us against ignorant hate. Oh wait, thats right, only white people can be racist and descriminate.
April 15th, 2007
(2)
unfair comparison, man - if you point at Dave Chappelle I point at Doug Stanhope, George Carlin, Bill Hicks (my hero), David Cross, Sarah Silverman, South Park, that willingly push the lines of race, sexuality, religion, etc. So you cant tell me that white people CANT say anything about race, its simply not true. But it's a retarded web of intent and context, not just the joke but of his job, that Imus got redtaped in. TV shows know comedians are going to push the envelope, that’s their job and people expect it, and it usually has no intent to specifically offend. with Imus he was also joking but he's held to a different standard by both his regular audience and his employer. These simple hypocrisy accusations ignore the fine details out there surrounding a persons job. Pointing at rappers and comedians is cheap rebutting, find me a black on air personality like Juan Williams or Tom Joyner getting away with this sort of sh*t and to me that’s when the accusations will have real merit.
April 15th, 2007
(1)
it really annoys me thought, when people treat Sharpton or Jackson as if they are President of Black People. I dont know who sets up these apologies thinking that its required or will solve anything, but they need to stop doing it - especially since it doesn't do anything but hopefully make them specifically shut up for two seconds. Media producers need to stop setting them up for these interviews as the voice of an entire race, because they simply are not.
April 15th, 2007
(0)
Whoa... do not compare the whole entire White race to Sarah Silverman... thank you...
April 15th, 2007
(1)
Then don't compare the whole black race to Dave Chappelle- the point is that people who say "OMG BLACK PEOPLE CAN SAY ANYTHINIG WHEN WHITE PEOPLE CANT LOL" are dumbasses.
April 15th, 2007
(0)
"It's like the f*ckin mafia man I don't know what else to compare it to." - you act like people havent overreacted to a statement before trying to destroy a persons career. did everyone forget the Dixie Chicks already?

No one seems to realize that Imus has said this phrase or a similar variant every single year during the women's tourney (and he makes fun of white butch women athletes too). So why now? Who set this in motion? Sharpton and Jackson complain EVERY SINGLE DAY about something, but they only get coverage when someone higher up wants them to. They are merely PR tools.
April 15th, 2007
(1)
its a good point. This wasnt an issue simply because Sharpton and Jackson stepped in. They're always stepping in, even against black artists/personalities, and they are listened to only when someone who WANTS to put a microphone in front of them, does. Again I think back to Glenn Beck calling Katrina survivors scumbags and asking Keith Ellison to prove he wasnt a terrorist. All it would have taken was a different set of phonecalls from a different set of influential people to cut off his head. but it didnt happen. Ann Coulter pisses people off all the time, but she survives. Theres tonnes of little factors that determine who lives and who dies by their comments. Its rarely ever fair, theres tonnes of double standards that are beyond race issues, but thats life the media and politics.
April 16th, 2007
(0)
Totally true! But it doesn't have to be the life of the media and politics...it didn't used to be and america's founding fathers tried really hard to eliminate the unfairness. Reagan's destruction of the Fairness Doctrine was the beginning of the end for fair and balanced media.
