Haha so funny, except NOT. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midnight_sun Close to the rotational poles, (more than 66° North and South, see 'Arctic Circle') the sun does not rise during up to 3 winter months and does not sink during up to 3 summer monts, the longer the closer you are to the rotational pole. 23,5° eath tilt +66° makes almost 90°.

There are telescopes on the south pole for the same reason of long noghts and days (that and a total lack of smog warnings): The southern stars also do not set or rise and it is dark for a long time, long enough to measure stars constantly enough to find planets around them.
