i dont get it
October 27th, 2006

Yes it is true. We must show the world the truth about the spyware advertisments that Electronic Arts has nearly forced us to observe...
October 27th, 2006
(0)
EA implemented dynamic advertising (changing billboards) and spyware into Battlefield: 2142, so I fixed the Box art for them.
October 27th, 2006
(0)
I like it.
October 27th, 2006
(0)
LOL nice...thats a 5

What's in his eye? Is that the third change?
October 27th, 2006
(0)
So true...
October 27th, 2006
(0)
That's good. Nice job.
October 27th, 2006
(0)
Not dynamic enough. Make the ad change repeatedly to reflect the true extent of the spyware.
October 27th, 2006
(0)
WHOA. THE SONG AND IF YOU MADE THIS 5
October 27th, 2006

Splinter Cell: DA did the same thing. :(
October 27th, 2006

I've never seen the ads in game, but maybe it's because my IP is masked (I've only seen boring placeholders where the images should be).
October 27th, 2006
(0)
They sure bought some good musicians and songwriters with all their wads of money
October 27th, 2006
(0)
Suggestion: Use actual music from Battlefield 2142. This theme has been overplayed. It's time for something new.
October 27th, 2006

EA just hasn't turned them on yet. Just you wait
October 27th, 2006
(0)
Besides the gameplay from the demo i tryed sucked. They should have stuck with what they had like battlefield 2 and just put futuristic-non boxy models.
October 27th, 2006
(0)
2142 is bf2 with futuristic models and such, AND spyware plus adds.
October 27th, 2006
(0)
But the gameplay is kinda... I want to say, consoleish. Like it was intended for the little kiddies with thier xboxes. Not quite as solid, and equally if not more frustrating than the battlefield 2 that i have come to tolerate.
October 27th, 2006
(0)
For starters, it's NOT SPYWARE, all they do is log your IP address so they know where the hell you're playing from, something ANY WEBSITE ON THE INTERWEB CAN DO. And as for the in game ads, so far if they've put any in I've never seen any of them. I'm not some EA fanboy, I'm just sick of retards whining about what's not even there.
October 27th, 2006
(0)
Clever, and the music can't fail... but I could use more hidden images
October 27th, 2006
(0)
The adds are comming! and the SPYWARE - yes thats right, is used to determine where you are and such to give you the approriate adds. Usually what spyware does.
October 27th, 2006
(0)
It not only pulls your IP adress, but user information. Personally, I don't think ingame advertising like this needs to be there in the first place.
October 27th, 2006
(0)
Exactly, ingame advertising like that is just dumb. EA are just being greedy and slowly ruining the gaming industry at the same time.
October 27th, 2006
(0)
Lmao. I knew I got it at first. I don't have this game though...
October 27th, 2006

This song is awesome too. I love it.

October 27th, 2006

I realised that, fixed it.
October 27th, 2006
(0)
Holy sh*t is that the real theme for 2142? Wow, I might buy it just for that! Well, if I ever get around to it...
October 27th, 2006
(0)
thanks for even more advertising
October 27th, 2006
(0)
Even if the whole IP logging thing is shady, EA has said they're not collecting personal data, and personally, I don't really care that much. I'd rather face a few ads and play online FOR FREE than have to pay monthly subscriber fee junk like MMORPG players get raped with.
October 27th, 2006
(0)
2142 has a theme halfway between that and Tiberian Sun music.
October 27th, 2006
(0)
"I'd rather face a few ads and play online FOR FREE than have to pay monthly subscriber fee junk like MMORPG players get raped with." Umm, since when have you had to pay to play online fps games? Ads is just because they found another way to make more money. You buy the game, you can play online FOR FREE in fps games.
October 27th, 2006
(0)
you're a good person
October 27th, 2006
(0)
^ exactly right. Yet another cash grab by EA in a game that was already a rushed attempt at a cash grab.
October 27th, 2006
(0)
"Umm, since when have you had to pay to play online fps games? Ads is just because they found another way to make more money. You buy the game, you can play online FOR FREE in fps games." Well they tried it once with Planetside, though I think that game tanked. I'm just saying people are whining over ads (that I've never even seen, and I play the game a lot) and FPS gamers have it much better than RPG'ers.

Would you rather play a game with ads in them or play another game that turns out like battlefield 2?
October 27th, 2006
(0)
"Would you rather play a game with ads in them or play another game that turns out like battlefield 2?" True dat, at least in BF2142 you don't wait like ten friggin' minutes to log onto a server. F*ck this, I'm gonna play Counter Strike XD
October 27th, 2006
(0)
Can you find all the adverts?!
October 27th, 2006
(0)
Agreed. EA needs to choke and die. Boycott this stupid f*cking game.
October 27th, 2006
(0)
The game is great, but the ads need to go. Seriously, this is terrible what they're doing. Again, good game. Motion mines ftw.
October 27th, 2006
(0)
BF1942 was the best, but BF2142 is pretty fun after you play it a while. BF2 totally sucked for me when it first came out so I didn't bother with it. The graphics sucked balls as did the gameplay.
October 27th, 2006
(0)
Could I get a source for the audio? I just downloaded the BF2 theme, which isn't it, and I can't find anything for 2142.
October 27th, 2006
(0)
the Battlefield song is the sh*t. I loved BF 1942, especially the Desert Combat. I don't like playing 2142 because my PC is too sh*tty.
October 27th, 2006
(0)
That's pretty cool.
October 27th, 2006
(0)
so glad I didn't buy this game
October 27th, 2006
(0)
It's an edited version of the bf 1942 theme, and I can't remember where I got it cause my history isn't saved for some reason =/ anyway, can anyone find me a picture of the king? Like his whole body not just head?
October 27th, 2006
(0)
lol, my friend told me about this
October 27th, 2006

EA consists of a bunch of sell out ****ers. One day they will eventually collapse in on themselves & then we'll all be better off.
October 27th, 2006

Is this a fad I missed?
October 27th, 2006
(0)
EVERYBODY PANIC!!!! Give me a break. Like anyone has the time to look at fricking ads on stuff. If you actually play the game you aren't even going to notice. People will whine about anything.
October 27th, 2006
(0)
haha
October 27th, 2006
(0)
Have fun playing Ad field, your loss playing a game created by a bunch of greedy f*gs.
October 27th, 2006
(0)
It's actually a good game, although EA sucks balls at fixing their sound engine. I think they keep reusing the same one from BF1942 because I'm still getting the same crackling and crap as that game had back then with two different cards.
October 27th, 2006
(0)
true
October 28th, 2006
(0)
FFS there is no spyware, idiots. Its a great game hands down. The sound engine is fine if you would stop using sh*tty cards, its not unicef.
October 28th, 2006
(0)
So, what theme is this, and where can I get it? My comp is too sh*tty to run anything greater than the original UT...:'(
October 28th, 2006
(0)
wurs the funnie?
October 28th, 2006
(0)
Now I see what EA was working on when they should have been making some f*cking patches for BF2. I played BF1942 more than any other game in my life ... how low the mighty have fallen.
October 28th, 2006

October 28th, 2006

I don't mind ads if they go in places where ads should be. Though now that I'm thinking about it, if they use real ads then they'll stop making up awesome fake brands (Everything in Max Payne 2 for example)
October 28th, 2006
(0)
lol bring it on EA, I will be the first to rip this sh*t out of your games and release fix patches
October 28th, 2006
(0)
RentACop, they arn't going where ads should be, they're being placed right in your face.
October 28th, 2006
(0)
Did they really change the music to that?? It's horrible
October 28th, 2006
(0)
no it's the old good bf 1942 theme song
October 28th, 2006
(0)
Wow. Way to fall for an internet rumur. All the "spyware" of BF2142 does is learn what region you live in. That way it can put up a Pepsi ad in English instead of German. Also, I've been playing it recently, and I only have ads for EA! Seriously, if you are getting your panties in a bunch over this thing, you need to GTFO of the internets.
October 28th, 2006
(0)
way to spell bad, go back to school and stop playing video games.

October 28th, 2006

You need a "Powered by Intel Pentium 4" logo on the walker in the front (sorry I dont know its name... still playin the old bf2)
October 28th, 2006
(0)
And if your up to it maybe put in a google adsense thing on the top ^_^
October 28th, 2006
(0)
haha ill see what I can do
October 28th, 2006
(0)
Goddamn the music is so f*cking awesome. Do you know who made it?
October 28th, 2006
(0)
It's not spyware exactly. It just monitors how long you look at adverts on walls and stuff in the game, using anonymous methods. If some guy was doing market research to check an area to see how many people are looking at adverts on a billboard no one would have a problem. Also the revenue earned through in game advertising will lead to a fall in game prices, something that I've wanted for a long time!

October 28th, 2006
(0)
Why are you squabbling over whether it should be defined as spyware or not?? The simple fact is that they're injecting ADVERTISEMENTS into the game and that's just completely lame as hell. EA is destroying the gaming industry with their business practices.
October 28th, 2006
(0)
WELL ACTUALLY YOU DIDN'T FORGET POLEND! Good job, keep it up :P... Battlefield is a piece of sh*t game

October 28th, 2006
(0)
First off, awesome site, very nice job. Second, the music is the loading music for the BF2 expansion pack "Armored Fury" in case anyone was wondering.
October 28th, 2006
(0)
Another thing, Spyware or IP logging, either way what business does it have in a GAME. NONE. EA being greedy *ssh*les as usual. Making a MOD of a already broken and dated engine and adding Spyware and advertisments into it (instead of fixing the damed thing) and charging people full price ($50 USD) as if it was a brand new game. My suggestion would be to wait for the modders (real game makers) to release their mods. Forgotten Hope 2 looks good.
October 28th, 2006
(0)
Should have used the Battlefield 2142 theme. I got it if you want it.
October 28th, 2006

EA is the worst thing thats happend to gaming since Uwe Boll
October 28th, 2006
(0)
A crappy financially-motivated company acting like a crappy financially-motivated company. *sigh* I can't wait for a good free shoot-em-up company to get noticed and take away from EA's sales.
October 28th, 2006
(0)
Big deal - no adverts actually effect your gameplay. The spyware isn't actually spyware - because you know it is there. EA rush things, so what? I sure would - it's not like they care about every single tiny thing. And they shouldn't have to, as no one cares at the end of the day (unless they're like moaning babies)
October 28th, 2006
(0)
Fire at will! But first enjoy this refreshing soft drink! Which macro let's you collect royalties from product placement?
October 28th, 2006
(0)
It's not going to affect the game at all, and it's an awesome game. Yes, its spyware, but it's integrated into the BF2142 game files, and is not it's own program. Just because EA is a big company makes all these whiney bitches complain, it makes me mad. Why arent you complaining about Wild Tangent games containing spyware, or the ACTUAL spyware that all the small companies put into their programs? Just stop- Don't play the game for whatever reasons, and take a STFU pill.
October 28th, 2006
(0)
Hmm, nothing makes me want to go buy Coca-Cola, some Windows products, an Intel processor, and the entire country of Poland more than this game. Thanks!
October 28th, 2006
(0)
lol @ EA fanbois, all they're games suck anyway. They are made inefficiently and require a sh*t ton of computer power, I can run half life 2 and medium settings 1024x800 with no lag on a Geforce2, My Geforce 2 would probably explode t rying to run battlefield vietnam +. Not to mention they are all rushed, and that makes them even sh*ttier and buggy.
October 28th, 2006
(0)
Funny how people are cool with having T.V. ads blasted into their face every 11 minute, but flip out when they see a billboard in a game. This isn't like the spyware you get from downloading Kazaa. This is benign. I am glad you aren't going to play this, thats one less dumbf*ck ingame.
October 28th, 2006
(0)
I'm no EA fanboy. I despise every game they've made with the exception of the BF series. I also despise their marketing tactics. They tend to oppress smaller, more creative companies.
October 28th, 2006
(0)
Yeah, go ahead, just keep supporting EA no matter what they do. It's only a matter of time before you'll start getting things like pop ups in future games. I wonder if you idiots will try to find some way to justify that too. Face it, everything about 2142 is just EA trying to milk their BF cash cow, and you people are falling for it. The game isn't even good. It's the same exact thing as BF2, but of course some just buy it without hesitation anyway.
October 28th, 2006
(0)
haha nice
October 28th, 2006
(0)
agreed, the demo and full version (played for like an hour) are quite terrible, battlefield 2 was funner cause helicopters could barrel rolls. Ofcourse there is spyware and advertising everywhere, that's the world we live in today. A world of Mcdonalds, Microsoft and coke... but a game is not the place for tv like advertising. They COULD have been creative, and do what alot of companies do and advertise cleverly, shoot a drink machine and coke spews out, windows screen savers on random computers, etc etc...
October 28th, 2006
(0)
I actually don't give a sh*t about advertising if it means a cheaper product (WHICH BF2142 isn't). Why don't they treat it like television and have advertising but make it much less costly to buy. Then the advertisers will have a much larger gaming audience and will want to pay EA/DICE more in order to advertise in-game and thus the consumer benefits as well as the producer.
October 28th, 2006
(0)
I love the music
October 28th, 2006
(0)
", I can run half life 2 and medium settings 1024x800 with no lag on a Geforce2, My Geforce 2 would probably explode to rying to run battlefield vietnam" what the f*ck. i used to have a Geforce 2 quarter of a year ago. battlefield vietnam ran fine. and half life 2 ran horribly on LOW settings at 600X800. how much ram does your comp have? my old one only had 256 mb.
October 28th, 2006
(0)
and yes. EA suck. they are the microsoft of the gaming world. all they do is take games and churn out a thousand sequals only slightly improving things along the way. they dont even bother bringing out patches, and when they do all they did was anal f*ck games. plus their whole interwebs gaming thing sucks, their passwords and usernames get raped constantly, i made 7 accounts for far cry and none of them worked.
October 28th, 2006
(0)
they also buy out good game companies (Mythic anyone?), at the time my crappy computer had 512 mb of ram, 950 amd duron or something, can't recall, even tho it's just in the next room, lazyness has overcome me...
October 28th, 2006
(0)
Couple things wasn't pepsi sponsoring not coca-cola. The game is much better than bf2. Tell you the truth bf2 should run of this modified engine. And the ads well first theirs no secondary app that does this, it is built into a game. And if your scared of someone logging your ip address you should immediately unplug your internet due too how do you think someone IP Bans your from a site, Teamspeak, Etc?. The world is just not used to this yet eventually it will be the norm.
October 28th, 2006
(0)
lol! Oh wait, that's not funny. Oh well. Also, EA is a heck of a lot better than the "other" big company; Ubisoft.
October 28th, 2006
(0)
Sadly, in-game advertising is the way of the future for online games. Marketing folks are looking for "new avenues" to push their products- and now that WoW is an icon with millions of players; it's been realized that online gaming in it's various forms is just as large a market as network television. On network TV; the average 30 second spot will earn the broadcaster 10 dollars per 1,000 viewers. Obviously this is not a big money maker in BF2142; but it's the beginning of atransition.

Nice! I've made some 2142 YTMNDs, but they weren't nearly as funny as that. The music is from the Armored Fury Booster Pack for BF2.
October 28th, 2006
(0)
You know, unless you actually TRY to look for the ads you're not going to see them, I know I had to (and it took me a while too). I mean is anyone going f*cking try and spot the Coke logo when they're playing? Otherwise, it's a pretty solid game as far as gameplay goes. O NOES the gunships can't barrel roll, you're honestly saying you'd prefer a BF2 clone as opposed to something slightly different? Asides from that don't buy the f*cking game then unless you already did.
October 28th, 2006
(0)
ya no way i'm gonna buy that game... i'll stick to bf2

The spyware was proven not to be there, instead the system uses variables to tell how long you look at certain ads ingame and how close you are feet-wise to said ads. It's still ridiculous as f*ck, but it's not spyware.

October 28th, 2006
(0)
omg ya this is so true...EA has come out with some great games but they are the biggest *ss holes in the videogame buisness hands down...they have no right to put spyware on our computers (which is on 2142) to track what websites we visit(it tracks you ip's and relays them to ea to "pick advertisements apropriet for your region" instead of haveing a "Choose your region" selector which would be the smart thing to do! and there really isnt a + to the adds because the game still costs $60!
October 28th, 2006
(0)
hahahahaaha, very VERY nice, man. Congratulations you earn 5 stars...!
October 28th, 2006
(0)
Ok, the spyware thing isn't that big of a deal, they don't look and your cookies or anything, just your IP address to find out what country you are in, and give you ads based on that. Still, 5'd for funnyness and music.
October 28th, 2006
(0)
5'd for PS :), some of you need to chill teh f*ck out, this is about his Site and what he did, not about a direct attack at the fken game..chill

even if you don't care about the ads... it's still a pretty bad game =/ I said I liked BF2 better, not that I loved it. CoD2 and Crysis in the near future FTW

Yeah. not spyware. it's not annoying at all. So I guess that makes the site good based only on the creative insertion of pictures, which I don't care much for either.

Ads look pretty in-place, and this music is hardly BF2142 (i've got the game). 2'd.

Also, both F.E.A.R. and Might & Magic : Dark Messiah do the same thing. Also, all 3 games record mouse, keyboard and internet activity. I block it though, using shell code protection. Heheheh.

A lot of games use in game advertising, just that BF2142 is dynamic advertising, which I don't really care about. It doesnt affect gameplay so whatever. If you wanna not play a game for that, well then, your loss, cos it's a lot better than BF2.

funny, true, yet it has never happened to me. there are only "placeholders", like Kayne said. And god, they are BORING. but it would be funny to see ads in 2142. "mmk, let's just take this APC to the enemy titan, and HEY i didn't know that i could get a 2 for 1 deal on socks at walmart?!"
