"Is this going to be the boring, peaceful taking to the streets?" "No, they're will be looting, and maybe a couple of fires!" "Yes! In your face, Ghandi!" "The first person to say 'violence doesn't solve anything', probably never won a fight."

Bad YTMND, and at the conceptual level, horribly generalized and failing to actually make a point.

Too bad ever-lasting peace is impossible for humans, we're too self-destructive, and genocidal. "Why do people act as if war and murder are unnatural? What's unnatural is to go through your whole life without ever raising your hand in violence."

Because we all know how much of a problem the Nazis and Imperial Japanese are to America today, right? That and we're apparantly still British colonies.

Eh, no one ever said Ghandi was smart. Wait, yes they did. Ghandi's a homof*g anyway.

Gandhi's ideas worked against England because the English were not willing to commit mass murder to continue subjugating the Indian people. They would not have worked against the Nazis or WWII-era Japanese, because those nations were willing to kill anyone and everyone in order to win. The same goes for today's enemy: terrorists and terror-supporting nations.

Ghandi's ideas worked where he lived, though I disagree with them universally. Pacifism at some times is a moral position, but at other times it can be an immoral one. showing the world the face of the enemy by allowing them to run over you, is in some level stupid, but it can and clearly did - work. Gandhi defeated the British in India without firing a shot. If Tibetan monks were suicide bombing the Chinese would they still have the sympathy they do? i highly doubt it.

finally, read a history book. Gandhi supported WWI and encouraged Indians to join the army. In WWII he only advocated 'moral support' because he did not feel Indians should fight for a freedom they were denied at that time. Clearly you dont understand the quote you used, as others have pointed out.
