You are tying to sound smart, you are failing miserably. Not to mention that you wouldn't have the same objections if you actually knew what God was.

But seriously, you really believe in a world where you live from 0 to 100 years and become dirt? That is the saddest thing in the world.
September 8th, 2006
(0)
What, Adam wasn't made from dirt? You need to live forever to have a good life? As for your Pascal's Wager: You presuppose the Christian deity, when there are many possibilities of how the deity will act, including ones that will make it better for people to be atheists.

theking, your point can be reversed as well. If you're wrong, you wasted your only life living how others told you to live, instead of living life to the fullest.

btw, I help others in this world because it makes me feel good, not because I believe I will be rewarded for it in some afterlife. I respect others because I know my kindness will be reciprocated, and others will love me in return. Religion is not a prerequisite for morality, and living in fear is a sad life.

Moreover, even if your "god" told me to my face that I have to obey him or be sent to hell, I'd tell him "go right ahead, then".

Both arguments are being supported with human concepts. In all probability, God and/or things that "exist outside of existance" cannot be applied to such human ideas. Still an entertaining YTMND.

we have no way of knowing anything about God ... if he is the entity claimed to be, we cannot interact with him and apparently he chooses not to interact with us (strange, as he *supposedly* did a lot of interaction in Biblical times). So, if he's there or not, he doesn't affect us and we can't affect him. What do you call something that you can't sense in any way, or interact with, and does not interact with you? Nothing. If God is what whetstone claims, than he is in fact not existent.. not in this universe at least. and if he isn't in our universe.. who the f*ck cares what he's up to? we can't do anything about him and he can't do anything about us (at least apparently so). so in all essence he might as well not exist, or in fact, does not exist.

Vector (A.K.A. Vector1337) is a Communist from Belgium who wants to spread communism around YTMND. He upvotes all sites involving Communism (positively) and downvotes the sites that are hate towards communism. His sites are rated more than 2.00, and is a very nice guy that likes to share ideas with his buddy's. Vector's I.Q. is very high, and he doesn't like dumb people, even if it's not their fault they're dumb. His average voting is 4.33, and he voted on 5465 sites.

Objection 3: apples to oranges. Where exactly is he doing that? He says space, time, and matter were caused. Your, "apples to oranges" comparison amounts to: 1) If A, then B. 2) C, therefore B. It not only makes no sense, it's irrelevant. Further, in objection 2, where you say God wouldn't have the time to create the universe, is meaningless. The non-existance of time is not the same as not having the time.

"The universe is not a thing. IT IS THE SET OF ALL THINGS." Oooh, I like this one. 1) All vehicles must be registered with the RMV. 2) My Scion xA is not a vehicle, IT IS THE SET OF ALL VEHICLE PARTS. Yeaahh.... I'm going to try that one out.

Hey, if he can "universe = thing" and "space, time, matter = thing", I can use the same flawed logic for cars and car parts, right?

Nice...I like your theories. Even though I'm a Catholic and I believe in God, I played devil's advocate with whetstone and argued his POV. I still don't know why this stuff is on YTMND, but honestly...who cares? God is what people make Him out to be. Also, since when does God have a mind? I'm pretty sure He isn't a living, breathing human being and even if he was, nobody would know it...chew on that for a while. :)

I'm not going to give a rating or comment on Whetstone (for I am unfamiliar with his work), but for a good read I suggest "on the Existence of God" by Thomas Aquinas. It's a very interesting read that attempts to explain the existence of God uses logic and early scientific principles. I liked and, and I expect it may make some of you think about things (which is really what it's all about).

1) no points for being a tard and trying to prove the existence of god on ytmnd. 2) no points for being a tard and trying to disprove the existence of god on ytmnd. Give it up people, no one is converting or having an epiphany one way or another.
September 8th, 2006

wait... WAIT!! holy crap this ytmnd is perfect for an "and ALSO C*CKS" at the end. If you put that in you shall be the king of all the cosmos my friend.
September 8th, 2006
(0)
Add in an "Also C*cks" at the end for your fifth. A few of the slides need to be slowed down a bit, and some better music would be awesome. 4 for sharp use of logic.
September 8th, 2006
(0)
So you did this all to not prove him wrong, but to put down another's argument? I'll give you +5 for logic, and -2 for being a bit of a dick. Nice argument, I see your points, I am a Christian, yet this does not influence my vote. Anything that, in fact, acts outside of the physical spectrum as we know it, does not have "time" at all in our perception. Perhaps life is an instant there, or perhaps time stands still there. The thing is, we do not know, and therefore, can not use that in an argument. People can not use immaterium to justify an argument, as it does not properly "exist" in this plain.

Both of you need to get a pin and deflate your egos. This isn't an intellectual debate, this is an "I'm better than you" quarrel.

nice job putting words into others mouth
September 8th, 2006

Stop the arguing for God's sake! This isn't even a true rebuttal at taking his argument, it's attempting to humiliate this guy with semi-science. If God is in the "supernatural" as he argued, then yes natural laws don't apply to him so he can pretty much do whatever he wants or whatever those laws are. In either way, there's blank space there which we cannot define and that's called "faith," not "proof." You forfeit, mediocre day sir!

It is impossible to prove that god exists through logic. That's the whole point of faith. There's also no way to prove that god doesn't exist, since it is impossible to see outside of our physical realm.
September 9th, 2006
(0)
The big bang is a flawed argument anyway, more so than the original.
September 9th, 2006
(0)
Firstly, no one can prove or disprove the existence of good (I don't care by what logic). Secondly, on a more personal note you didn't have to be so agressive when writing this "STFU". Even when whetstone is responding he's does so without insults. Finally the only way to discover proof of god is after death. So no living person will ever know the truth, therfor making the topic pointless. Different theories can be used on both sides of the argument. Thanks for making this, and creating some conterversy, we can always use more.

An atheist with a Fushigi Yuugi name? all sorts of win.
(0)
you are stupider than anyone on this site. im pretty sure that god could find a way to get around the fact of time...considering he created it. and the big bang wasnt a small event....it was exactly what its name implies douche. also your arguments are flawed. you said that everything that happens does not have to have a cause just as big. Have you ever heard of newton's 3rd law ...every action has an equal and opposite reactionary force..everything that has happened has been the result of an equal force
(0)
you also seem to be completely retarded in the theory of the big bang...scientist that know what they are talking about say that all the equations they have worked out disprove the big bang ...if they finally end up proving it, then i guess we know what caused the big bang...God of course

Great ytmnd. I had this very conversation with a pastor before and I told him about "how it was all going in a circle", based on his reasoning. That is why I'm non-religious :)
