I think its hilarious how so many people prove the point of this YTMND - and their own hypocrasy - through their own posts. "Shut up you -blam!- Christian! You're not being persecuted!"

^ "Christian attempts at converting people to the darkside of the force do not belong on YTMND." But non-Christian attempts to tear down and make fun of Christianity and prop up unproven scientific theories do?
September 6th, 2006
(0)
REGomega, lol, unproven theories, you sir are a moron, evolution is a fact, and if you say "BUT IT IS JUST A DUH UH THEOORY." then you obviously know nothing about science, and should therefore SHUT THE F*CK UP.
September 6th, 2006
(0)
If it is an UH DUH fact, DarkReign, they why is it explicitly called the THEORY of evolution in every textbook? I have never said that I don't believe in evolution (though you assumed I don't), I actually support it and think it fits with the Bible. I don't think the Bible, like anything else, can be interpreted literally. If you paid attention to my posts, you'd know I'm anything BUT a bible-thumper. But thanks anyway for jumping to stereotypical conclusions about someone you obviously know nothing about.

Your other sites indicate that you understand what makes YTMND tick, but the fact that you'd create something like this convinces me otherwise. The juxaposition of the plight of historical Christian martyrs with lame, off-the-cuff internet insults likely typed by bored 15 year olds is ridiculous and laughable - and does not hold up even in a metaphorical sense. You take yourself WAY too seriously.
September 6th, 2006
(0)
Hatred...wait a second...I HATE THINGS! As evidenced by the fact that I hate when people try to evangelize via YTMND. Christ can help me with my hatred of obnoxious Christians on YTMND? Tell me how! And stop acting like Christians are the trodden-on suckers of humanity. You have the entire Republican party! Be happy!
September 6th, 2006
(0)
But 2 because I like the music and it sort of made me laugh. Oh, and by the way, YTMND in general is anti-everything other than itself and it's allied internet forces. It's not particularly anti-religion, you just notice it more. It IS definately anti-religion, but it's also anti-ebaums and anti-government and anti-establishment.
September 6th, 2006

THIS IS NOT WHAT YTMND IS FOR
September 6th, 2006

You're full of sh*t. Do you know how many ahteïsts get killed? or moslims? Or any other believe for that kind. People should make their own principles, not base them off someone else.
September 6th, 2006
(0)
any YTMND that tries to push an agenda gets a 1 from me. Not a bad animation/song though. Don't misunderstand, I completely disagree with you. I think you're misguided and silly, but not bad at making a YTMND.
September 6th, 2006
(0)
Damn, it really is a mad world. Sh*t like this only brings out the ugly side of everyone, and I don't like what I see. From ANYONE.
September 6th, 2006
(0)
It's worth pointing out that several of those persecutions were one sect of Christianity 'purging' another...but still, a worthwile YTMND. But...Peterguy isn't a martyr till he's dead. ;)
September 6th, 2006

REomega: "and think it fits with the Bible" Go read Genisis dumbass. The bible is old, and doesnt fit with anything anymore. Let alone with science. Also, go read Angels and Demons (Dan brown) about how many atheists have been killed.

According to the International Religious Freedom Report, published in 2004, about 592 million people (about 9.2% of the world population) are Protestant Christians. No need to try to sway more of us to your religion by making an example of an overly hubristic YTMND user who can't tell the difference between science and religion. Also, guess what? NERO KILLED CHRISTIANS BECAUSE HE WAS INSANE, THEY DIDN'T SACRIFICE THEMSELVES FOR THEIR RELIGION. GET REAL. Finally, I'm pretty sure "Mad World" is by Gary Jules.

crusades lol
September 6th, 2006
(0)
Also, AardvarkThomas has a point. Christians caused the Crusades, and there is no skirting around that, or how catastrophic it was. You also insinuate how martyrdom is about simply dying, which is untrue. In addition, you included a quote from John 15:18. Good one, I feel so much better that someone else was hated before me. In conclusion, MARTYRED IS NOT A VERB!
September 6th, 2006
(0)
Kahvi: "Nice site on martyrdom... now show one for all the "pagans" and "heathens" that the christians burned for sticking to thier beliefs with unfaltering faith. Oh wait.. thats too many to count now is that.." http://overtheroadracing.ytmnd.com/ Like I said: http://www.tempestsmithfoundation.org/

xXGogetaXx: What I'm trying to say is that Genesis and Evolution can co-exist, if you'll stop flaming long enough to listen. Genesis was written by imperfect people, yes, and I view it as being one of the least reliable books in the bible because it was passed down verbally for generations before being committed to writing, and much was probably lost in the translation. Think about this: if you lived in a time when the wheel was a new thing, how would you describe evolution without science? -=Continued=-
September 6th, 2006
(0)
Nien!
September 6th, 2006
(0)
How many people have the Christians murdered over the centuries? This YTMND is a hypocritical pieve of sh*t. You guys have ruined Jesus' message with your self-pity. 1'd from the heart.
September 6th, 2006
(0)
"Peterguy isn't a martyr. And neither am I. If you missed that point then you need to go back to 3rd grade. The fact remains that some of you WOULD kill me or Peterguy assuming you could live in a country where you could get away with that, and there weren't an internet between us." Right, because I'm sure everyone is completely sincere when they joke about killing someone over the internet. I guess Neil Bauman was right that we are a criminal threat.
September 6th, 2006
(0)
-=Continued=- Say you lived in a time where the common belief was that the world was flat and the sun orbited the earth. How would you describe the evolution of life? The formation of the universe? Now actually read the beginning of Genesis. Everything (sun, Earth, water, fish, land life, man) forms in the same order in Genesis that science says it formed. That's why I think science and religion can coexist. I made my point without flaming or insults, and I'd appreciate your responding in kind.
September 6th, 2006
(0)
xXGogetaXx, I back you hard. REOmega, first of all, historians pin the wheel's creation at or around 5000 B.C.E. (Before Common Era before you flame me without knowing), not during the era of Jesus' lifetime (by the way, historians also differ on the exact date of Jesus' birth, saying it most likely wasn't 0 C.E. as we all once thought). Anyway, my point is, the Bible is a thoroughly outdated, completely unreliable document. The wheel wasn't invented recently, we now have science to explain evolution.
September 6th, 2006
(0)
^.^ Sorry ROE. Although a theory in science is very well supported by evidence....gravity is still a theory for example. Anywho, my bad on the assumption deal.
September 6th, 2006
(0)
I mean sorry REG...hehe.
September 6th, 2006
(0)
I'm aware that most dates in the bible are inaccurate, and I am also familiar with the invention of the wheel. I agree that science explains evolution, but I don't think it disproves God. For future reference, I don't take offense with terms like B.C.E, that's purely asthetic. I'm not a bible-thumping zealot. You don't need to approach me like a venomous snake, but that doesn't mean I enjoy being kicked around. I want rational, calm debate; not a firefight.
September 6th, 2006
(0)
hypocrisy, crusades, etc.
September 6th, 2006
(0)
Glad to know you are not a bible-thumping zealot, and I am not offering a firefight. However, the reason I do not believe in God is not that science disproves the existence of God (or gods) but rather that it does not PROVE the existence of one (or several).
September 6th, 2006
(0)
Dammit you still don't get it. Catholicism is a sect of Christianity, the original at that. Why don't you just say Protestants... You can't say Christian without referring to Catholics too.
September 6th, 2006
(0)
I personally don't think science could ever prove or disprove God. I think it's a personal choice, just as scientists subscribe to different beliefs in theoretical fields. I've weighed the evidence in my mind and come to the conclusion that God exists. Many people would disagree with that, but when we take away all the rhetoric, it ultimately comes down to individual choice.

With my previous comments still standing, I do agree that most of the Christan-bashing on this site is unfounded. Flaming other people doesn't solve anything, beliefs and YTMND itself are fair game, but targeting people is unnessacary.
September 6th, 2006
(0)
* individual YTMNDs, not the site itself...
September 6th, 2006
(0)
We probably don't want to do a YTMND about how many people Christians have killed over the years, that would take forever. I'm sorry, but Christians killed by other Christians can't possibly count as "martyrs", and I really want to see an objective source for "465-500 Christians martyred daily". And finally, I hope you're not suggesting that some flames on a website are the equivalent of being burned alive or fed to lions, are you? That would be callow, indeed.

Let's see one of you be brutally honest about your beliefs, knowing you're gonna get abused like this in a public forum. Instead, y'all gang up on them like a friggin' pack of wolves. first of all, I think a lot of people that find themselves in an anti-peterguy stance are either agnostics (rather than athiests) or tools thriving off the belief that it's "cool" to talk sh*t when it comes to topics, such as religion and politics, rather than actually forming cohesive arguments of their own to actually bring forth a productive debate worth taking part in. Second of all, I only think that peterguy himself is a tool of moderate proportions - while he may often make ignorant comments with...

...the obvious (though perhaps not concious) intention of causing a stir, he also does make an honest attempt to bring forth a reasonable argument whenever he is approached by someone with an equal level of maturity. In today's age, that's saying a lot. However...and as strange as it may sound...that's exactly the kind of person that pisses me off the most. Some things just don't have a place on YTMND, and logical, reasonable and mature debates on religion is one of those things. It's like walking into a...

...toy store and asking some kid, who's looking for his favorite transformer action figure, a series of questions about the nature and meaning of the universe. Is it a valid and important question to ask? Yes. Does he give a sh*t? No...and he has no reason to. So, at least here on YTMND, I regard peterguy and people like him with about the same mindset that I would one of those rambling old men in a toy store, subtely b*tching to the shopping kids about things that need not interest them. In closing: No; 1.
September 6th, 2006

interesting, i just watched donnie darko before seeing this YTMND. your number for christians killed for their beliefs every day is wrong. sorry. Also, it's not like it only goes one way. plenty of christians have killed others for their beliefs/preferences. religion and morality are issues that humans will lose their humanity for. oh, and i'm public relations officer of my university's atheist club, so i kinda have to give you a 1. nothing personal.

^ "I regard peterguy and people like him with about the same mindset that I would one of those rambling old men in a toy store, subtely b*tching to the shopping kids about things that need not interest them." Very clever, I agree with that sentiment. In other news - just noticed the twisted anti-Catholic undertones here, which further convolute the author's intentions in making this. Forget Christians, the only thing that's going to be killed is this YTMND.

"[That is] why is it explicitly called the THEORY of evolution in every textbook?" Do you realize what that means from a scientific point of view? A theory is the ultimate trump card in non-mathematical sciences. It's a collection of definate facts pieced together with a little bit of "This problably happened somewhere around here." That is why I can still accept evolution while being a Christian. Anyway, I'm not here to debate, but rather to point out that the bigotry in this thread only serves to

Yeah, Christians are peaceful people and would never persecute anyone... Except for the Crusades.... Oh, and the Spanish Inquisition... Oh, and burning people for being "witches..." Oh, and bombing clinics that perform abortions... Oh, and uh, shooting doctors who perform abortions... Oh, and annoying the living sh*t out of everyone who doesn't happen to have the same worldview as them. Then, when anyone says they're tired of hearing about how awesome Christianity is, "OH WOE IS ME! I'M A MARTYR!"

nice, but remember, that you are not the only one persecuted in history. also, i liked the music and all. now, this guy is not pushing his beliefs at gunpoint, just advertising, which is fine, however, your anti-catholic slant pushes this down by one. no religion or denomination follows its faith perfectly, do not deny this.

iamthenra - Armenia converts in 301 AD. 194 years ago would be roughly 100 AD or so. Then, you would still have had christians which were not catholics. Perhaps Catholicism was the first church, but they were not the first christians. And one would question if the mentionings were ones in the hands of the Catholics. It'd be a little difficult to trust them, as it would be any group, if it was their literature that asserted their 'dominance'.

You want a God? Try looking in the mirror. If you want to change your life for the better, the solutions come from YOU. Our ancestors struggled to keep humanity in existence against plagues, ice age, predators, etc.. HUMANS who came before us are the ones we should be thankful for, not an imaginary being. Show some respect.

When I say I believe in God, I'm referring to God in a metaphorical sense. Yes, God is real.. it's what motivates all of us, it's psychological. You help other humans because you love them, and it makes you feel good... not because the bible tells you to. We're not "born into sin", have some respect for yourselves.

Brothers! Sisters! Why do you have such anger for those who follow Christ? Even though I be not of the same flock, I respect them and do not question why they follow this particular prophet. Why is it that you hate Christians, but not Muslims or Jews? They follow the same God, therefore do they not deserve the same judgement you have placed among this particular religion. You think them fools and ignoramuses, yet they have something you many not, faith. I be myself not a believer in God, by the way.

I would also suggest that you review the history of your own religion in regards to it's treatment of other religions. You would also do well to review Christianity's current position in the world in terms of economic, political, and miliary power. You may also want to read Phillipians 2:1-15.

With a pissy attitude like that, you'll be joining them when they get there. It (for the most part) was the lack of being killed for their beliefs that made Christians so emboldened that they could go and actively try and convert people. Jesus was a great man, but you people have perverted his original message to the extent that it's sickening.

I like how all of your examples after 305AD are Catholics killing Protestants, so Christian on Christian violence is an example of Christian martyrdom and persecution? You then cite a website (gospelweb) which ONLY cites other Christian sources and not one unbiased source to make a ridiculous claim of "465 Christians martyred per day." The site itself is ridiculously hypocritical; see the article, "HOMOSEXUALS CONTROL THE 'MEDIA'."

What pisses me off is they keep shoving these sites in everyone's faces in attempts to convert by guilting. This is not acceptable by any means. People have been debating for centuries now and it does no good. (Often results in war.)

If you don't think catholics are true christians, and only protestants are, to the extent that you only mention protestant christians in your conclusions, why is it that you also mention events of like 34 AD, while protestantism as we know it didn't emerge until the 16th Century?" So you are Martyred by your YTMND critics for coming on to THEIR site and telling them what they should believe and do? To believe in God is a personal choice, one that is more likely brought about by moderate people living biblical values peacefully than others who bang on about everyone who disagrees with them being the devil, and throw truly one-dimensional arguments at homosexuals and evolutionists.

I find something incredibly disturbing (and mildly heretical) with equating actual martyrdom with internet flaming. I also think you're out of line when you judge Catholics with a broad stroke by saying they're not real Christians (I'm a Methodist, for what it's worth), particularly considering that early Christians martyrs (as you have illustrated yourself) were in fact Catholic. Perhaps you might consider turning the other cheek.

What most people don't seem to understand is that the Crusades were more politically motivated than religiously. Early Christians used to perform a pilgrimage to Jerusalem, much like the Islamic Hajj. However, an increasing number of these pilgrims were being attacked, robbed, and killed in the desert. As a military campaign, the crusades were overreactionary and ultimately futile, and today the Catholic church does not mandate a pilgrimage. Just something to keep in mind.
