Star Trek's Best White Noise (Sound Fix)
The Star Fleet Warp Core is the most soothing sound in the history of anything...even the ocean. And yes, I know its technecly not a white noise, but you get the idea.

That's what happens when you take the port nacel plasma conduits offline for routine maintenance despite having stopped at starbase 97 just two months prior. IF YOU'VE ALREADY STOPPED FOR THE BARYON SWEEP, GO AHEAD AND GET YOUR PHASE INJECTORS CALIBRATED.

is it just me or does muffin man seem like an insecure prick? As an aside, I agree with afronight: It sounds like the warp core was sampled a kitten purring.

August 26th, 2006

It probably seems soothing to us because the muffled pulsing probably sounds much like one might imagine their mother's heart when in the womb. The sound is utlizing all sorts of subconcious triggers to relax us.
August 26th, 2006
(0)
ZZzzzzzz...
August 26th, 2006
(0)
I'm no Trekkie but I used to love watching The Next Generation... also, 5 for "F-ing Warp Core" and the "muffled pulsing" comment, which is probably correct, strangely enough...
August 26th, 2006
(0)
omg dude that's...so....relaxing...I wish I lived there and could listen to it
August 26th, 2006

THis is cool. I dig it. Also, at time of post, you've got 256 votes! Yay for the powers of two! Yay for me being a proud nerd =D
August 26th, 2006
(0)
The sound is too soft, you have to turn the volume up if you're basing the YTMND off the sound. Also, my vote makes you Worthwhile, congrats!
August 26th, 2006
(0)
yeah. I could sleep to that sh*t.
August 26th, 2006

August 27th, 2006
(0)
i don't get it
August 27th, 2006
(0)
Well, since it's a repeating sound... it's not white noise. It is soothing though.
August 27th, 2006
(0)
The warp core is not a big truck, its not something you just dump something on... Its a series of tubes!
August 27th, 2006
(0)
yeah i wouldn't call it white noise...it's like what you'd hear in the womb...very nice
August 27th, 2006
(0)
You never realize how hypnotic that is until you hear it all by itself.
August 27th, 2006
(0)
I think it has that kind of nice "warm" quality because it resembles a soothing heart beat. If only more things sounded like that and not like annoying buzzes and beeps.
August 27th, 2006
(0)
Fav'd. You win.

Ambient sound is not white noise. White noise is static, hiss.
December 28th, 2009
(0)
White noise is any steady, unvarying, unobtrusive sound. It can be static, sure, but also rainfall, a large crowd, the hum of an engine, fan or computer....
August 27th, 2006
(0)
Indeed
August 27th, 2006
(0)
Does that turn anyone else on? Mmmmmm...warp core.

No, neither white nor pink, but that's okay. Know what it sounds EXACTLY like ? A pregnant mother's heartbeat, to the fetus. Very soothing at a primal level.
September 3rd, 2006
(0)
Oh, hey, my favorite comment on this page: "is it just me or do you seem like a nerd? And yes i watch star trek but it's nerds like you that make the genre unappealing to watch" ... You can't have it both ways, pard - you WATCH it (not to mention you're on internets) = automatic nerd. LIVE WITH IT. LEARN TO LOVE IT.
September 16th, 2006

"A pregnant mother's heartbeat, to the fetus." Already said that boomaga.
