Remembering WW2: Tinian Island (not funny, only view if interested)
from Deveyn on fark.com: -------- All these photos were developed by my grandfather, a seabee stationed on Tinian during WWII. I scanned them and restored them as best I could so he could see them before he died in 2001 at the age of 89. This is the fir

first time anyone else other than those in my family have seen them. He ran an underground photo lab in his tent and was basically the guy you went to when you needed anything. His irish temper was notorious and he spent a lot of time in the brig for punching out officers.

Indeed they are, otter, if anything, this is even more reason to hate emo’s. They sit and cry thinking they are in hell, when you get images like these; it shows emo’s need a massive reality and perspective check.

Powerfull images. And @ Andriy, it's a shame you only care for people serving in the Eastern European front. In the end, no matter the race or place of origin somebody is from, it's still a human death and should be treated equally.

Oh and didn't you guys go to highschool?! Only 6,000,000 people died in WW2. They were all Jewish, and they freed themselves from the concentration camps. You know nothing.

You should post a little background info inside the YTMND because, honestly, I didn't even know what they were photos of until I went to Wikipedia.

Think I fixed the loop? IE users; lemme know. As far as info goes, what info I have on the pictures is posted in the comments or the description. Beyond that your guess is as good as mine as to who the guys are, what each picture is specificly of, etc.

You should really put some information behind the island. Most people only know about the European theatre.

Good site and it's always nice to see 1st person history. But slightly off-topic, is it just me or does the piano background part sound like music out of FF7?

People focus a lot on the European theater, but the Pacific was no less important. Those are quite the photos. As for members of 'your people' dying from Axis tyrrany, well, the Japs slaughtered 10,000,000 of my Chinese 'brothers,' I lost over 400,000 Italian 'brothers,' 500,000 French, 400,000 British, and 7,000,000 Germans. Add those to the 400,000 Americans that died, well, whatever. It doesn't matter what nationality they are, all that matters is that they're human.

"Powerfull images. And @ Andriy, it's a shame you only care for people serving in the Eastern European front. In the end, no matter the race or place of origin somebody is from, it's still a human death and should be treated equally." Disguting what humanity loves to do to itself. But it's human nature.

Grooblle these aren't from my grandfather, they're from someone that randomly felt like posting them on fark in a comment thread. As others noted alot of times the pacific theater is often stuck in the shadow of the european theater. I made these ytmnds to change that, if only a little.

Tinian Island also happened to be the launch point for the Enola Gay, the plane which dropped the two atom bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Laugh. That 5 was redundant. It says clearly as day "from Deveyn on fark.com" in the description. If it was from my grandfather it would just say that. But yea thanks for the 1.

I didn't think this was funny. Also, I failed to see how it was interesting... perhaps some colour and a picture of Cosby. And some lively Music.

"Oh and didn't you guys go to highschool?! Only 6,000,000 people died in WW2. They were all Jewish, and they freed themselves from the concentration camps. You know nothing." - HEY!!!! HOMOSEXUALS died in the camps also. They worked together with the Jews to end the war. Jeez, go back to middle school, noob.

didn't find it that great but had to 5 it because my grandpa was stationed on Tinian as a fighting Seebee. He actually watched to Enola Gay take off and return.

One island the Japs had good reason to fight to the death for: Tinian is where the B-29s that nuked Hiroshima and Nagasaki took off from.

If you want to know more about Tinian, the Enola Gay, and the man that piloted her (General Paul Tibbets), I suggest the book "Duty" by Bob Greene.
