SpaceWhale you're a moron. Japan is in the Pacific region. The question is obviously refering to the Pacific theater. And DogDemon, the Japs would not surrender until they got nuked twice. Had nothing to do with Soviets.

lol. should it be a mix of running in the 90's and smw end music?
(0)
1'd for being wrong. At the time the A-Bombs were dropped, Japan had already pretty much been defeated in the Pacific via naval battles and USMC forces taking over Japanese forward island bases.

lol...funny. but flawed. the question wasn't answered the right way because of the reasons that cyclonus pointed out. otherwise, it's silly and can make you laugh, so it deserves a three.

It said "Draw conclusions"
August 10th, 2006

Eh, not that funny, considering that you took the question directly from the book, and the questions at the end of the chapter like that are almost never assigned as homework. Also, the answer is partially correct, and isn't based on false premises like the math one was. Which is where the humor comes from. Finally, it's a lame question that doesn't touch on the important issues; the 'hows' of warfare are rarely a significant topic of discussion in history classes.

No, actually... They f*cked up the Imperial Navy at Midway. And the Nips overcommitted. Their plan hinged on taking the Pacific quickly and denying the Americans any bases to operate from. As it became apparent the war was going to drag out, Japanese defeat was inevitable. The A-Bomb led to their *surrender*, but their *defeat* was assured long before the nukes.
