i think if enough people use "photoshop" as a word, they can lose their trademark. It almost happened to xerox.

The photoshopper photoshopped a funny photoshop picture using photoshop's new features added since PS 1.6. Haha, I broke every rule. WHAT ARE THEY GOING TO DO ABOUT IT?!?!

I think that image was enhanced using Adobe Photoshop. I can tell because of some of the pixels and from having seen a lot of images enhanced with Adobe Photoshop in my time.

Uh huh, sure. We're all going to go through all that trouble just to explain how we photoshopped something. And maybe on that day, O.J. will find the real killer.

^^Jazu got the point - if a tradename is too commonly used, a co. can lose the power to claim exclusive right to it - e.g. apirin, heroin, escalator, thermos, etc. Adobe wins, b/c it's a household name, but will lose b/c it's TOO common.

I predict "photoshopping" will get in the Oxford English Dictionary as "computer photo manipulation", and Adobe will fight it.

I'm surprised they don't mention anything about saying "Shop" which is what most people say. "This image was shopped! I can tell by the pixels, and I've seen many shops in my time"

There is nothing at all that's strange about that. They have a trademark, and if they don't actively project that they have an interest in protecting that trademark, they risk losing it, because "it's not a trademark, it's slang, and you can't copyright slang."
