Subliminal Cartoon Advertising?
Maybe it's just me, but I see a possible subtle attempt at advertising for smoking.

Its not subliminal because Winston was one of their sponsors, so of course Fred & Barney are going to smoke at one point.

It's amusing to see cartoon characters smoking, but there's nothing subliminal about it. It was a straight-up advertisement for smokes.

Wow... now that was wrong. But if you remember back in the 40s or 50s, smoking was considered "SEXY" or "COOL". Seriously.

You guys don't see this in the context it was made; "The Flintstones" wasn't originally made as a children's cartoon. It was a prime time sitcom. And in an age where people didn't know the effects of smoking, this sorta thing was totally normal. Now, with the addition of Pebbles and such, it became more of a kids show, but these are before that time. Spot the animation differences. Cool find, though.

Adding onto what Joshua-P said, back then, actors were basically owned by their studios, and at the end of shows it was common for them to advertise things in-character. With popular characters Fred and Barney, this is just an extention of that.

They're subliminally on the 'down low'. Notice how they're lounging together alone behind Fred's home (no window for voyeurs, and a stone fence), handling phallic objects, Freudian innuendo galore. What we just missed was the spooning. Subliminal indeed. Communist bastards.

You missed the opening part, where Fred and Barney see Wilma and Betty sweating over yardwork. Barney: "Gee Fred, it makes me feel bad watching them work like this while we're just sittin' here." Fred: "Me too, Barn... eh, let's go around back where we can't see 'em!" Barney: "Okay, Fred!"

it's not subliminal if they are talking about it.
(-1)
Okay, there are two things wrong with this: 1 - It's freakin' old, look at it, there are those lines, and there's obviously no color at all. 2 - It's not subliminal, like what MrOwl said: "It's not subliminal if they are talking about it"
