If it bleeds it leads. Disappearances usually don't garner a lot of media attention due to their lack of sensationality, most major media outlets would rather show a war, or a car chase, or report on a stabbing at a funeral because people eat that sh*t up with a spoon. We are all f*cked up.

While I think there is a small amount of truth there, it also depends on how they were abducted. I don't know a lot about Chelsea King, but the Chandra Levy case was news because it involved a State Representative, JonBenet was brutally murdered and had bizarre parents, Elizabeth Smart was forcibly abducted from her home in the middle of the night.
