Do you know what I love about Rai...
Rai was a comic from Valiant Comics. DarthWang remembers him, if no one else does. :o)

Yeah, they really did have some bizarre ideas. I liked their stuff for the most part, but it wasn't the usual Marvel/DC kind of stuff.

DC was just poorly written, trite garbage with unlikeable characters. I just went back and read the death of superman with the whole Doomsday story line, the entire thing from writing to art is just a huge steaming pile of dog sh*t. old marvel comics are pretty cheesy and awful too, but they at least had some cool characters.

nowadays I just like a select few writers / artists instead of entire comic labels, like sam keith or frank miller

I always kind of felt bad for Jim Shooter. He had what I considered good ideas for running a comic book company: a limited number of titles, a universe that works in a plausible and consistent way, good continuity, story arcs that actually made a difference to the characters and setting, etc. In order to run a company like that, though, he had to be a micro-managing hardass, which made him hard to work for. I have a fondness for (pre-Acclaim) Valiant comics, but they were kind of doomed from the get-go.
