IMDb LOVES YTMND!! (Finding Forrester top 250)
With the help of YTMND, Finding Forrester could be IMDb's number one film of all time! Update: This should not be taken too serious guys!

There's a problem with this idea though... it only counts votes from regular voters. So if you go create an account just for this it won't make any difference. I'll go vote though... I'm an IMDB regular.

How about Max puts a pledge drive for the American Red Cross on the main page, and we all pledge ten cents per month for supplies to go to Sudanese Christians in Darfur... Oh, f*ck it, let's just make Finding Forrester #1.

The IMDB rating system is very different than the YTMND rating system. It's not as easy as getting a good site to the top viewed. Worth a shot...but I don't think we'll get it to crack the top 10, as I don't think it's even on the top 250!
July 26th, 2006

The thing is, Finding Forester wasn't really that good of a movie... besides, those 17000 votes for SoaP weren't all distinct - it was the same people voting again and again, over a period of seveeral days.

Great idea, but it took me almost 5 minutes to register, wait for the email, and finally vote, so I doubt enough people could do this. :/
(0)
I gave it a 10.
(0)
no NO!!!!!!!!!! putting finding forrester up there doesnt make it a better movie, and it sure as hell doesnt say anything about YTMND AT ALL!!! please dont do this cause imdb was still holding onto its decent true movie based voting, not popularity...

"I voted. One problem is you have to be a member to vote right? People may not want to sign up." - A valid point, but the Snakes on a Plane thing required e-mail verification. Registering to IMDb won't be much different. Besides, everyone should already be part of IMDb, as it is awesome.

July 26th, 2006
(0)
This is sickening. Max asked us to help him get free sh*t from Snakes on a Plane. Thats a completely legitimate excuse to vote for him, so I did. But to go on IMDB just to screw around is really something wrong. Half the people on this site haven't even seen the movie, and this isn't even for a specific purpose but to mess with the internet. IMDB is used by a lot of people who actually like movies, and putting this at the top of the list is just juvenile.
July 26th, 2006
(0)
The reason max got so many votes is because we are allowed to vote multiple times. And I also disapprove the idea, since it would be biasing the rating of the biggest movie database. The final rating wouldn't mean anthing since I figure that a lot of people wouldn't even have seen the movie.
July 26th, 2006

I don't see the point of this. I like the quotes, but that doesn't mean it's a good movie (I've never seen it). Do we really want to be known as spammers? It won't prove anything. I voted 1 on the movie, just to undo one person's vote.
July 26th, 2006
(0)
Awesome. Excellent research and great idea. I have an acct w/ IMBD I am right on it.....
July 26th, 2006
(0)
Uh, no. The film sucked. You think the phrase YTMND makes the film 10 worthy? No. And you automatically suck for saying the word "shizzle" anyway.
July 26th, 2006
(0)
Wait, but that won't do anything. Only regular voters can vote on the movies.
(0)
I was the one that originally said downvote the top 250 but after looking thru them I can't in good faith with many of them. But oh man are the sh*tty/lame ones gettin it.
July 26th, 2006

July 26th, 2006

July 26th, 2006
(0)
It seems like this has caused some controversy. I have to say I love IMDb myself and respect the top 250 movies list but at the same time I know that many of the films there cannot be considered as the true top-250 because most of the people who are regular at IMDb are in a certain class of people I guess. I thought Finding Forrester was quite awesome and voted it a 10 from the heart but us lot voting it a 10 is just the same as the thousands of Star Wars fans giving their films a 10.
July 26th, 2006
(0)
this really is bullsh*t, i hope everyone who voted a 10 will die in a fire for being juvenile and think they are cool cause they can zerg rush. Is there a place where the non-*ssholes can go and enjoy YTMND peacefully, without being clumped with these cultists -_-
July 26th, 2006
(0)
Hey greg. Star wars fans have SEEN THE MOVIE. Everyone here thinks its cool just cause they heard "You're The Man Now Dog!" over a billion times.
July 26th, 2006
(0)
Eh, I want to keep the (somewhat)purity of IMDB rankings
July 26th, 2006
(0)
thats just dumb, why mess with a perfectly decent ranking? it wont achieve anything, good thing imdb only counts regular voters.
July 26th, 2006
(0)
Heck, I registered at IMDB just to do this.
July 26th, 2006
(0)
Stop spamming the forums there, because I am reporting abuse.
July 26th, 2006
(0)
Too many people are raiding like tools, this is why there is a distinct lack of well done and creative ytmnd's
July 26th, 2006
(0)
Please, for the love of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, don't f*ck up the IMDB. It has enough problems as is. YTMND has nothing whatsoever to do with FINDING FORRESTER being a good movie. In fact, if I understand correctly it was the goofiness of Sean Connery saying The Line that spawned this site in the first place. God knows that line got derisive laughs when I saw that trailer in the theatre. This is completely irrelevant, nothing more than petty vandalism. Sorry for the 1.
July 26th, 2006
(0)
^ Douchebags. I'm voting
(0)
yea greg, its totally different, everyone that votes have seen the movie, and they are decent votes because theres not a pack on the internet that yells "LETS SPAM IMDB"
(0)
lets not be stupid here, the line is funny and all but lets not bring down truly great movies
July 26th, 2006
(0)
Gregh, although you have good intentions, the reason thousands of Star Wars fans voted 10 is because they saw the movie and loved it. Not because it spawned an internet phenomenon. But with the number of people here that disagrees(And they are growing,) I believe your plan won't reach perfection.
July 26th, 2006
(0)
There is no reason this should be on up and coming, let alone the top spot. There are plenty of good ytmnd's posted today, don't spoil it by being a tool.
July 26th, 2006
(0)
IT CAN BE DONE
July 26th, 2006
(0)
kill the downvoters! Max please put this site somewhere on the mainpage for a really long time. You've got my vote
(0)
In defense of the plan: Have you looked at the Top 250? There's a whole lot of crap, cult films, pop non-sense, etc. I say vote all the top 250's as an 8 & FF as a 10 for minimal ripple effect. And don't spam!
July 26th, 2006
(0)
"There's a whole lot of crap, cult films, pop non-sense, etc." If this movie were to get bumped up through this rally, wouldn't it fall under that label?
July 26th, 2006
(0)
Really, though, finding forrester was a pretty good movie. If you guys want to take it to the top, thats fine. But the forum spamming needs to stop (no matter how fun it was)
July 26th, 2006
(0)
At least there's a point to attacking eBaumsworld. Attacking IMDB is just shameful, the sort of antics I'd expect from the idiots of eBaums, not the brighter and more creative (all things being relative) YTMND collective. I seriously doubt that Max would approve of this stunt. I hope he wouldn't, anyway.

Anyone who spammed the forums is likely to be banned. I've been reporting the messages, and I've been getting, "Thanks, we already have sufficient abuse reports about this user. Administrators will be processing these in due course"
July 26th, 2006

I know the Star Wars fans have seen it but their intentions for voting it as a 10 would be to increase its recognition. So their motives are the same, right? Firstly, this YTMND was just something I thought of and I thought it'd be pretty funny. I disagree with the downvoting of other top-250 films because that's unnecessary (though I laughed at the suggestion). Getting this one film up there won't do much harm to the rest of the list. It's messed up anyway...The Green Mile ranked 130th or something? WRONG.
July 26th, 2006

I'll do it. Also be sure to give 1's to The Shawshank Redemption and dare I say it, The Godfather (I know it's a great film and all, but we need to be strategic!)
(0)
"'There's a whole lot of crap, cult films, pop non-sense, etc.' If this movie were to get bumped up through this rally, wouldn't it fall under that label?" Actually, I saw it in theater & thought it was pretty decent. And even if you're right the fact remains that we push one out for something we believe in.

July 26th, 2006

theres no way youre going to get 40000, or even close to that, especially if you can only vote once. on the snakes on a plane thing you can vote once a day.
July 26th, 2006
(0)
Cool idea, but it won't work. IMDb only cuonts votes from regular voters, who vote on alot of movies. So most of the votes from this site won't count towards putting it on the Top 250.
(0)
it's spam
July 26th, 2006

ONE PROBLEM: It says above the voting page "Only votes from regular users will be counted". So we all need to become regular users first.

You have put forward an interesting task for us YTMND'ers here... However, I may not gonna give a rating of 10 just because of YTMND... I might though if the movie's good. You still get a 5 because it's an interesting task, and also because you used a song that I've been trying to find for a long while.

youre english or irish as you said 'maths' not 'math'
July 26th, 2006

July 26th, 2006

Ahh yes, nothing makes an internet community more appealing than childish goon behavior. :( You get +2 for a catchy tune, but this idea is an embarrasment. IMDB's staff doesn't deserve the BS you surely must have known this would bring.
(0)
I did it. For all of you too lazy to register just leave the website and never come back
July 26th, 2006

"youre english or irish as you said 'maths' not 'math'" - English. "so many great films on there, I suggest you watch them. you might become smarter and stop making stupid *ss sites like these" - I'm an avid film-watcher and have seen a good majority of the top-250 list. Whilst I do not necessarily agree with the order, I agree that many of them are superb and have changed my view on life. This YTMND is just a bit of fun, don't question my knowledge and insight of films.

I have too much respect for movies to do something like that. Finding Forrester didn't earn a 10 and it won't get mine.

Greg, if you're going to create dupes to upvote your own sites, it would be wise to not talk to yourself on your own comments page.

Immature kids like you take what little credibilty the internet has and lessens it
July 26th, 2006

"Yeah, the IMDb Regular thing may be a problem but I thought most people would be fairly active on IMDb. *Shrug*" It's painfully obvious. You logged into the dupe to upvote your site, forgot about it, and made this comment. Also, he registered 3 days ago and the only sites he has voted for are yours, all 5's of course.

"Immature kids like you take what little credibilty the internet has and lessens it" - Firstly, I'm not a kid. Secondly, I am not immature.

nice try. had syncan or mastersitsu, or boomaga suggested this, imdb would have crashed already with all the traffic from ytmnd'ers.

agreed with martin prince - only the cool kids get the whole class motivated.

Although Syncan, MasterSitsu and Boomaga all have good YTMNDs, I wouldn't be blinded by this and would not support the operation.

this will actually give me a reason to register for IMDB now cuz i"m pissed I can't read individual movies' message boards no more without one. Thanks for this.

Vote or die. Then, if you're still alive, go vote for other stuff so your vote will count.

"Although Syncan, MasterSitsu and Boomaga all have good YTMNDs, I wouldn't be blinded by this and would not support the operation." i notice you have a SOH site. The "cool kids" were cool enuff to sway you once before. Wern't max and master-s the first to call that to action? So never say never.

I voted, so only ~39990 votes to go. I don't think you'll get them because, unlike max's snakes on a plane thing imdb's registeration system is quite gay

Cool, why not. Also downvoted Battlefield Earth but it doesn't really need it.

@ martinprince: Well yeah, I have a SOH. Not because of Sitsu, because I actually thought it was funny. If he hade made THIS YTMND about IMDb, I wouldn't think that the idea would be better.

I don't think I could do this in good conscience. I really didn't like Finding Forrester that much. It was OK, but the 'YTMND and PTKFGS' scene was the best thing in it. The rest was just kinda boring.

Haxxors made it to where all the views aren't being recognized. If you search for it then it shows up as - views.

The problem is the movie isn't all that great. So who really cares?
July 26th, 2006

Does it really require that much explanation to vote for the damn thing. 1'd for that, and 1'd because this will never happen. GTFO.
July 26th, 2006

Let's not artifically inflate the score for that movie. It really isn't that good. Also, how do we know that all those Snakes votes for Max are legit? He got a lot, I'm sure, but how many of them were due to script kiddies running spoofs?

You know, this really is bullsh*t. Everyone who thinks its bullsh*t, just get on and give Finding Forrester a 1, cause eventually it will just balance out.
July 26th, 2006

I don'T think it needs balance. His plan is not powerful enough to make the slightest change on the rating, it will get to 7.4 if they are lucky... VERY LUCKY

I actually rented "Finding Forrester" last week, it's a nice film! I like how that professor gets pwn3d. BTW, why not change the music to Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's "Somewhere Over The Rainbow/It's A Wonderful World" since it's the closing credits song for "Finding Forrester"?

this is retarded, becasue this could lead to people from some other site upvoting Spice World or some sh*t into the top 250. imdb is one of the best sites on the internet, i wouldnt want to f*ck with it as much as id want to give eric bauman the rights to my ytmnds.

this would be a good idea, but you failed to realize that 50% of ytmnd is downvoting idiots. so, though it would gain more votes, it wouldn't move places much.
