Tom's Diner was used as a testbed to develop the MP3 file format. Or rather, the a cappella version of the song.
this is why Suzanne Vega is dubbed MOTHER OF THE MP3. I've tried to tell that story as a reason why the Suzanne movement started on YTMND in 2014 since users on YTMND have depended so much on that file format for audio assets in YTMND sites, and yet many other YTMND users seem to have no appreciation for that singer/songwriter Suzanne Vega.
