Seriously, I can't play for more than 45 minutes without my thumbs cracking and my index fingers numbing.

At first, yes. A bit. But all you need is your knee to support the DS. That is, until you teach yourself to hold the DS up the right way. I finally got the right hold when I first fought Gorea. But anyways, 5 for truth.

ProTip: Use your knee or other support.

Yes, proping it up on your knee does help alot. What also works though if that feels uncomfortable is to push the DS with your control pad hand (or button hand) into your ring finger and/or pinky while holding the stylus over the screen with the rest of you fingers. This way you support the DS on each side and you still have plenty of movement room with the stylus.

I actually have no problem what so ever playing, I just have a problem with my thumb locking up in pain because I use the thumbstrap.
